So my wife has the BRCA-2 genetic mutation. In short, that's a gene that leads to an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer in women and mainly prostate cancer in men. While it could have been worse, this still isn't welcome news.
She's leaning towards a double mastectomy, which sounds a bit extreme initially, but if you or a loved one had an 85% chance of landing breast cancer, what would you do? You'd probably want to reduce your chances as much as possible. The surgery reduces the chances, which are usually anywhere from 45-85%, to about 5% or less. After hearing those numbers, I was on board immediately.
I post this because this is a site that showcases thousands of lovely, well, breasts, among other things. I enjoy them, and I particularly enjoy my wife's boobs. I even have a nickname for them: The Pointer Sisters! On the other hand, I enjoy her beautiful soul more than a couple mounds of flesh attached to her chest. So, please check your family history and monitor these things closely. Encourage others to do the same.
