It's funny. I'm 37 years old, and in the land of free healthcare, I've never had the opportunity of seeing a gynecologist. Well never that is, until today. They're almost impossible to find, and you need a referral. Today I had my first examination by a REAL gynecologist (as opposed to a gp), and let me tell you there is a world of difference in attitude and skill.
Without going into the gory details, my internal anatomy makes pelvic exams challenging. In the past, I've had doctors make put my feet up in the stirrups while they've spent 20 minutes trying to accomplish a pap smear, then call me back two weeks later to repeat the farce after they didn't do it properly the first time.
My doctor today took less than 2 minutes for her exam. It didn't hurt (which I'm used to it doing). It wasn't humiliating. I didn't feel like an abnormal freak. Yay for gynecologists! It's almost enough to make me want to go back to school and study women's medicine.

wow I just read your journal entry, and I think I am going to need photos so as to reference what you are eluding to about being abnormal, I am an amateur gynecologist myself, I don't know all that much about it but am happy to take a look at it for you any time and for free.
There great when you can get them. I must admit though I think the referral thing is a scam for money. I went to a foot specialist once since the gp couldn't solve the problem, and found out the foot women received 35 dollars for the referral on top of her normal billing, while the gp got 25 bucks for doing up the form.
I'm just glad it worked out for you
