Human beings are so incredible in that we can create security simply by invoking our imagination. Close your eyes, bang you're alone. Too many people around you? Imagine you're in the pacific on a lonely island. I'm thinking of the beautiful scene in Prisoner at the Gate where the young couple makes love in a crowded hideout. Supposedly everyone is sleeping (but come on, really). And yet, in that situation it is easy to imagine that you are all alone and voila, the security intimacy needs in order to flourish is created. Who gives a damn about the guy beside you who hasn't slept properly in 6 weeks for fear the hideout will be stormed and all put to death. Everyone's eyes are closed and therefore, no one else is around. Don't ask me why I'm thinking about this now.
