Worked all day Wednesday and Thursday to get ready for the Space Island anniversary on Saturday night, then went to Ascension in Hollywood. Such incredible music and performances, I got to sleep moments before sunrise.
Spent the entire day and night building and working and painting and wiring, then closed my eyes for about 90 minutes before Saturday. More supply runs: welding equipment, steel, lighting gels, ice, and more booze.
A heartbreaking moment came at around 7:30 when we made the call to not use the aerial rig. It had finally come together, but we didn't feel there was enough time to run additional safety lines and give the performers a chance to rehearse before people guests started to arrive. No worries, as it wasn't even a feature attraction.
We held a couple people at the door at 9 while the last couple details were tended to, then at around 9:15 the house lights were off and the sound systems kicked into gear.
Such an amazing time. I could go on about it for hours, but instead I'll let you see the evidence for yourselves. Attendance was around 800 - a good crowd without things being too packed. Dawn rolled around and we switched gears into after-party mode. Sunday became Sunday night, and I finally went to sleep around 3am. *yawn* I need a massage and a nap...
