I use the big ol' canester thing from Quaker. Old Fashioned, again not instant. Add the oats to the water when it starts to boil, turn the heat down to a simmer and cover it. 5 minutes later it's exactly what you want. Now add your milk (soy 4 me) and brown sugar. Now I bump it up a notch by splashing a bit of vanilla into the mix and a dash of cinnamon. Do that after adding the oats - mix it all up then simmer. Turns it from "damn good" to "fucking awesome" - just don't go crazy with the cin - subtlety is the key.
After you start eating it this way it will be hard 2 go back to the instant variety.
You can also use pure maple instead of brown sugar. Don't use that fake maple syurp crap but real maple. It's great in oatmeal among other things (try pure maple instead of honey in tea!)
Well there's my little betty crocker/food networky thing 4 the day.
