I used to ride dirt bikes not long before my teenage years... I spent a lot of time on nice, groomed tracks. And very little time actually out trail riding. Well after dirt biking I moved onto a downhill mountain bike. I loved it. The freedom, the speed, the fact that it didn't require any extra fuel. So I have stuck with the mountain bike since. Now I also ride a fixie, mostly for conditioning, and commuting when I'm just to busy to get out of town into the mountains.
Fast forward to like 3 weeks ago and we arrive at my at my buddies bachelor party. Not your average bachelor party, instead it is a weekend of dirt bikes, skydiving, and Jeeping... An hour into the first trail ride on the bikes, it's all coming back to me, I'm feeling confident, it's all good... I slip, creeping down a gnarly, rocky hill... The front tire slips, washes out... I try to bail, my hands are off, my left foot is clear, I'm almost, CRUNCH... My toes touch my shin, and my ankle never moved... Right foot shattered... I have to ride out... Hospital, cast, surgery, pins and plates, cables and screws... "You're a healthy young man, with any luck you'll be walking again in 6 months"... Not feeling lucky... Not at all. Just want to pedal my bike...
