Hair rising on the back of a neck, it's a signal of danger, spidey-sense. What does it say if my spidey-sense is activated by kindness?
The residents of Monterosso seem to have recently discovered chips-and-salsa. The bar-tender/owner, amidst a discussion of the grape varietals making up the local wine (living nestled in the most beautiful vineyards in the world, the residents are understandably passionate on that subject) decided his wine selection might adequately accompany this culinary delight, and described it with the same detail. "This is from Mexico, a salsa of two peppers and a tomato base with fresh cheese melted in, and fried corn tortialla chips," he proffered, and awaited my approval as a sommelier with a fine bottle from the cellar anticipates the first taste of the diner. And I thought, if I had just discovered salsa, how could I not freely offer it to tourist and local alike, my neck tingling from some mix of the second glass and a kindness to travelers unexpected of a tourist-ridden town.
