I saw Batman Begins today. Wow, I loved it. It's dark and gritty and very grounded in the comic. I'm a huge comic book nerd. I have no shame about it. I've seen damn near every comic book movie released in my lifetime. I saw the shitty ass Captain America movie, I saw both Punishers. I mean, I've suffered. One brief note before I talk about how much I love the new Batman. There are very few comics that are as quintessentially NYC as the Punisher. Frank Castle is a New Yorker no matter how you cut it. So to move the newest version of the film to fucking Miami was sacrilege.
Now, as for Batman Begins. I loved this movie. Christian Bale is the perfect Bruce Wayne/Batman. He has the tortured soul that you have to have for this particular hero down pat. Katie Holmes, who I have heard badmouthed for her performance, is actually damn near spot on for her role as Assistant DA Rachel Dawes. Plus you get Gary Oldman as Sgt. Gordon, not yet commissioner, and many great actors as characters that are very dear to any comic book fanboys heart. Two things that I absolutely loved were A) Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow. I loved this guy in 28 Days Later and he plays an entirely different equally demanding role here and is very damn good.
The other thing that I really really love and this proves my geekness is the moment that most people won't even catch. Christopher Nolan and David Goyer show their attention to detail when they have a scene of Sgt. Gordon's house at dinner. Sitting at the table is a young girl, who obviously is Barbara Gordon. That young lady will go on to become Batgirl one day, and this is the type of shit that I love to see.
Yep, I'm a geek. I can't help it.

Nice. All I'm hearing are good things about this movie. I'm really looking forward to seeing it. It's a rare comic-book movie that doesn't piss off all the comic book fans.
