Alrighty guys and dolls, here it is..
DRAGON*CON BLOG AND PHOTO DUMP!!!
I have finally pulled myself out of my post con depression, and am ready to share my five days of awesome with you all! Dragon*con is far and away the most magical and wonderful weekend in Atlanta. Where all the things you wished were real, become real. Five days of no insecurities, no anxiety, no real world trouble.. just smiles, just positive energy from every corner, radiating from every person. A gigantic group of like-minded individuals being 100% themselves. It's a beautiful thing. Science Fiction and Fantasy have been my escape from the world for so long, and so much of it is because of the messages so many of those stories deliver. Hope. The unbreakable strength of the human(or alien) spirit. The will to sacrifice yourself for something larger. The need to make the unknown known. To boldly go where no man has gone before. That's what draws me back to scifi/fantasy every time. That is why it's hard for me when the weekend comes to a close. But enough about the sad stuff! On to the photo drop!
Con officially starts on Friday, but everyone checks into their hotels on Thursday and end up dressing up and hanging out in the hotel bars, so it's the unofficial first day of Dragon*con, but there is always plenty of excellent cosplay to see.
This girl right here is my fucking scifi/fantasy/nerdy soul mate. Three years ago Dragon*con brought us together, and I've spent every con with her since. She is the Riker to my Picard, the Chewie to my Han, the Number Six to my Gaius. Basically she is everything. Here we are in our natural habitat.
Cheesin hard with Nine.
Doctor Bunny. Love this girl too, she always busts out some really fun stuff.
SAGA!!!! Last year I only saw one Saga costume, but this year was much different. So happy to meet and talk to other Saga lovers. I highly recommend that comic to anyone!
Starlord! So many Starlords. One of the nights a friend of mine came up with the idea to drink every time you see a Starlord. Yeah, we had to abandon that game before anyone went over the edge. So so so many Starlords.
My friend Charmander. The last time I saw this dude was Dragon*con 2013, I'm so thankful this weekend brings me back to some of my favourite people every year.
On to Friday! The first official day of con!
Baby Wolverine was too adorable.
OG Starlord!
I love that this girl did Mystique mid transforming, so cool!
Nightcrawler is one of my favourite X-men. Just a little fun fact for you.
I got my picture taken with some pretty fucking cool people you may recognize.
Being all awkward arms with P Stew. Make it so!!
Tricia Helfer, aka Number Six, is fucking gorgeous. I was like, uhhhh let me pick my jaw up off the floor real quick.
BRB guys.. running away with Karl Urban. I attended his panel on Friday, he is fucking hilarious. Look at him!! Look at his sultry face. Swooooooon!
Ahhh! Emma Caulfield, aka Anya. She is the sweetest little tiny thing. Ignore the fact that I'm a blur.
Michael Hogan. The best hugger in the world. He like hums when he hugs you and it just reverberates through your body, his energy is great, and he is a little flirter. Love you Colonel Tigh!
Craig Parker! Holy moly. This dude was so down to earth, he chatted with us forever.
Friday night I was Leeloo Dallas!! Such a fun cosplay! This was the first time I had ever done something more with a wig than just a really simple style. I never really do anything beyond a braid with my own hair, so I was really nervous about having to cut and dread a wig, but it turned out awesome. I got a lot of compliments on it, and people really liked that I chose to dread it, instead of just keeping it a short cut. It really made my night, and made me feel so confident about trying future wig styling. Just another reason to love Dragon*con.
Fellow Fifth Element-ers.
Love these sassy Sailor Scouts.
This little baby Groot danced! So in love!
And here we have Lee Hurley. Who made the most amazing Groot costume probably ever. Seriously, this thing was amazing, the eyes were perfect.
Haha! This guy! I absolutely love when dudes do scantly clad lady costumes. It's so good. But would have been better with briefs.
PRINCE ROBOT!!!! I was so so excited to see this one!
I saw so many more amazing costumes, but I'm really bad at remembering to take pictures when I'm having such a crazy good time. So on to Saturday!
Started the day by meeting James Gunn! He did a free photo/autograph session, and just accepted donations to Plant a Tree for Groot. When you put money in the jar you would yell 'WE ARE GROOT!' and the whole crowd would yell it back in unison.
Lee Hurley again with a really kickass Ronan and another Starlord.
James even had to get a picture with Groot.
I was really bad about taking pictures on Saturday, mostly cause my phone was on the verge of death all day.
But Saturday night I was Harley Quinn! I did a steampunk Harley last year. I will do her pretty much every year. I don't care how many other people do her every year, I just love being Harley. I love all the Jokers that come up and say 'Hello Harley', I love bounding around the streets of Atlanta, and doing cartwheels through hotel lobbies, I love teasing all the Bats I see. I just love being Harley.
I took a couple Instax(posted further down this blog) that night, but didn't take anything on my phone. I was just having too much fun.
So on to Sunday! Not a lot of pictures from this day either. I attended the James and Sean Gunn panel, where they mostly told stories about filming Guardians of the Galaxy, which were hilarious. After that it was on to the BSG panel. All the feels man. All the feels. I think I cried about four times throughout the whole panel. First, when Mary McDonnell came out wearing one of Laura Roslin's pantsuits. Then when Mary talked about how hard it was for here and Eddie to film her death scene. Then again when Kate Vernon started crying talking about filming the last episode. And finally when Micheal Hogan lead the crowd in three chants of So Say We All! It wouldn't be Dragon*con without me crying at a Battlestar Galactica panel.
After that I rushed over to meet Kate Vernon, aka Ellen Tigh. She was so sweet. And since I am way too shy to ever ask a question in a panel, she was kind enough to answer mine for me before snapping a picture.
Sunday night I was the Red Priestess, The Lady Melisandre. For the night is dark and full of terrors, but the fire burns them all away.
Ran into sweet baby @boomer_ that night.
All the Instax I took throughout the weekend. These are from various times. Starting off with my most favourite. I talked to this girl forever and ended up taking two of these so she could have one too. I was so so excited to see a Rachael, and even more excited to see she had the electric owl! She said she was just as excited for someone to get the owl thing, since the electric owl is in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? but not in Blade Runner.
Monday I attended the Klingon History panel where I bought a copy of The Klingon Art of War, and the author was kind enough to sign it for me. I loved that panel. It was one of the smaller ones, and it just felt right for my last panel of con to be surrounded by some Trekkie super fans. After that, I spent the rest of the day walking the dealers room. Picked up a couple new prints, some geeky delicious cookies, and a new Bulbasaur.
Five o'clock came and it was time to head home. With heavy hearts we packed up our party van, the Millennium Dragon*con, and headed out. My friend, you remember the awesome one from the top of the blog, we went back to my apartment to watch the newest Doctor Who(Into the Dalek) and try to fight the oncoming post con blues. That evening a group of my fellow con lovers gathered to have our tradition post con pizza and beer bonanza. Another year, another con. And dare I say, this year may have been the best yet. Can't wait to see wait 2015 brings.
So there you go. A beautiful weekend in a nut shell, well maybe something slightly larger than a nut shell. For those of you that attended, I hope you had the best time ever, what were you're favourite cosplays? Panels? Moments?
Hope you all enjoyed the update!
