So it turns out that all the soundscapes that have been rattling around in my head for the past 15 or so years can only really be realised (well, not ONLY, but a lot simpler, for lack of a better term) with modular synths.
I was messing around with an in-store euro-rack system recently and within 20 minutes had not only come up with a patch from scratch, but a really eerie, haunted soundscape that was just begging for some overdubbed percussive vamps of guitar.
Which lead me to the realisation that if I am going to have any sort of satisfying musical creative output aside from listlessly strumming chord progressions or rock riffing, I'm going to need to sink some serious dollars into a modular setup. I'd sort of already realised this a few months ago, but after actually messing around with one, it was so obvious that is what I need.
I *think* my interface (bit that goes between instrument and computer) still works, but I've not really tried it out since it was left out in the rain by some really shitty housemates when I had my big life-altering breakdown and had to move back to Sydney, but I'd be surprised if it did work. So much stuff was ruined by that dick move. So many books.
End random thought transmission of the week.
Oh, and Australia Post is fucking awful.
