No real reason to be updating... i'm just kinda bummin' out right now, working on a drawing (one of many that are a bit overdue ^_^;;;;; ). Kinda sucks being in school right now because i have to draw and paint so much for my classes that i don't have a lot of time to work on fun stuff like birthday presents (i've got a list), commissions (i've got one, non anime style, thak God) and things like that. Honestly that's partly because of my job, too. No such thing as a lucrative short shift at this place. The only real reason to stay is for the benefits, but if i took a server job at a real restaurant i'd be able to pay for my insurance after only working one night and i wouldn't have to worry about it till the next month... fair trade i think: work half the time and make at least the same amount if not twice as much doing the same job.
Main problem i have with my job is the inconsistency. It's a long story but let's just say that the rules keep changing and so you get yelled for following them and then get yelled at for not following them and i really can't take that.
I hate inconsistency anywhere, though. Like i just heard this thing about how my school is no longer offering life drawing classes, when animators NEED life drawing in their portfolios or else they won't be able to get a job anywhere unless they are simply amazing... and it has something to do with 3D coming to the forefront or at least the fear of it, but they should realize that you need a solid background in 2D animation before you can EVER hope to do realistic 3D animation and for that you need life drawing... WTF??? Gives me a good reason to start looking at other schools. Maybe i'll apply to Cal Arts again. Might be the Disney school of animation but at least i'll get a good education out of it. I dunno... it depends on what happens here. I heard that "intermediate 2D animation" is just teaching Flash, which can't even hold a candle to the animation software that's being used out there for TV shows. If that's really the case, i'm going to go somewhere where i can learn the industry standards (which i THOUGHT was here) so i can get myself a real job when i graduate. I don't want to get my degree only to have to go right back to school again because the curriculum was missing something vital that they claimed to cover but just conveniently forgot. I might be good at what i do, but if i don't know how to do something that the entire 2D animation world considers to be the standard, then that will NOT bode well for me at all. It'll mean that all i'm good for is drawing... which is fine for the beginning because i love to draw, but i'd like to be worth more to a company than that.
I really hope that what i heard was an exaggeration and not quite true and/or that the school is going to wise up and put those life drawing classes right back into the curriculum, cuz otherwise, i'm hitting AWN for more schools.
