I'm slowly coming to grips with the fact that the people I knew, who I tried to reconnect with on facebook, are not on the same page as me in numerous ways. I've found in the last few months that they are paranoid, racist, homophobic, and numerous other detestable things.
Not coincidentally these same people call themselves Christians.
I know full well that people will always disappoint me. I just wish that the disappointment didn't constantly come in the form of a belief system that has such ties to overt, active hate. And it would be one thing if they just disagreed with me based on facts. But it's all just blind hate and distrust.
It's just really saddening.

That's especially sad when you consider the main messages of Jesus. Christianity is a great outlet for some people to be giving, charitable, self-loving, etc, but too many people use it as a justification for their hatred.
