Ok, so this annoyed me.
So i was at work today (that part annoyed me already) and i, along with just about everyone else in the store, noticed a very fit, pretty young woman wearing a green sundress-type thing, and cowboy boots. No makeup, hair in a ponytail. Only thing that stood out was that massive amount of cleavage she was sporting, and the fact that the dress was rather short. Trust me, the boobs were the attention getter. Anyway, i like most men, took a look, got my fill and moved on. Sure there was the usual "hey check HER out" but after that, nothing more was said.
At least not by the men.
One woman in particular in my department, a middle aged woman who i'll call "Jane," just would not shut up about the pretty one. She spent the next half hour scoping her out, watching reactions from men around her, and subsequently coming back to share with ALL OF US just what she thought about this girl, and how she didn't need to be putting herself out there like that because she's pretty enough and she doesn't need to show off so much and what's she gonna say when she gets a guy and all he does is call her a whore because of the way she dresses yadda yadda yadda.
I was just like "GOD DAMMIT Jane, get over it! The rest of us already have!" But she continued to carry on with her holier-than-thou opinion. I tried to reason with her numerous ways:
"Have you considered the possibility that this girl decided to wear that outfit because it's 80 DEGREES IN OCTOBER and she probably won't get a chance to go out in this kind of weather again till next year?"
"Have you thought about how maybe she just grabbed the first thing she could find, and that she's not 'trying to show off' at all? She has no makeup on. She didn't do anything more with her hair than you did (which is nothing). She's just shopping. She probably didn't even think twice about that outfit."
"Don't you think that if she was REALLY trying to show off, she would have put makeup on, maybe done her hair a little more, worn something a little more form fitting?"
"Y'know, maybe she's a nudist and she just had to put SOMETHING on, so she could get some groceries."
She was having none of it. I have to say that i find it very strange that women are so critical of other women. I guess i shouldn't. But i guess what i find strange is the irony that so often men are blamed for being sexist and whatnot about how women dress, but honestly most times we're just glad to have an attractive woman IN THE AREA; she could be wearing a loose hoodie and baggy jeans and it totally wouldn't matter. Also what bugged me about this is the assumptions Jane was making about this woman. That she just HAD to be trying to advertise, "i mean, look at what she's wearing!" Where have we heard that before, hmm?
I guess there's no reasoning with people sometimes, but damn... "judge not," right?
