The summer of concerts continues. Last week I caught Squeeze. I was not a big fan back on the 80s, so I did not have any hope for them. The tickets were free and we had to go with this couple, I do not like. Despite the company I have to admit I have a great time and I did not even drink. Squeeze was very good. They did not look as old as I thought they would. We had 4th row tickets, which added to the fun.
The weekend event however was The Newport Folk Fesival, brought by Dunkin' Donuts. I know that money makes the world go around and all...but why does something like this have to be sponsored by a donut shop? Anyway, despite the corporate sponsorships (Dunkin' Donuts, Corona, Ben and Jerry's) I always like this festival. Sometimes they have some really good acts, I am excited to see. A couple of years ago, they had Bright Eyes. Sometimes the acts are just awful, like Saturday when the headliner was the Allman Brothers. Let just say they shouold have traded planes with Lynyrd Skynyrd. Sunday was super. There was Alejandro Escovedo, Cheryl Wheeler, Emmylou Harris and Alison Kraus. Yes, I love punk but there is something about roots music that I love as well, which is why some of these acts really get me excited. Also, being around a bunch of liberals is always a good thing. There is always a lot of vegetarian food, lovely ladies with some great ink and the odd fellow with the funny hat to chat with.
This was the view on Sunday

Being so far away this is how I saw Emmylou

More of the view on Sunday...nice!

Alejandro Escovedo on the second stage

Alejandro's hot Violonist

And I as I predicted, Q did post a new set. Go check it out if you have not. I love it. I particularly love the last two pics. Very funny. Any set with Smurf and Nixon is a good set even if it is just for laughs.

Steal away!
One of my personal mottos: CSE (copy and steal everything). LoL Well not really "everything". But it's helpful if you need something in a pinch to have a reservoir of copied phrases, etc.
