ADVENTURES IN BEAUROCRACY
PART ONE
A month or two ago I did the two following apparently disastrous things
-my bill pay payment to Credit Card A had still not processed 2 days before the due date, even though I sent the payment two weeks before the due date. Even though I paid it online, Bank B had to send Credit Card A a physical check which had been lost in the mail. Bank B advised me to stop the check and make a payment on Credit Card A's website. I did so, only to have to pay A MASSIVE FEE (the entire amount of the stopped check) over again to Credit Card A.
-Then I had a late payment to Credit Card B, owned by Bank B. So they reduced my limit from $8000 to $800. THEN they increased my APR. When I called to find out why they increased my APR, they said that it was because I had a revolving credit account that was too close to its limit. Which Credit Card B now was, because they had reduced my limit. The beautiful part is that my payment was six days late. It is not supposed to show up on your credit report for 30 days.
The coda: Bank B will now not give me an auto loan because they think I am risky, purely because of fuckups and insane decisions on their part. Previous to this I have had a ten-year spotless credit record almost entirely with this bank.
PART TWO
My application to my most preferred MFA program somehow did not make it to that program. It either got lost in the mail, or got lost in the university's grad admissions office and never got to the program-specific admissions office. So I MIGHT have been able to go to grad school this fall, but now I can't, because some anonymous genius somewhere lost my application.
UPDATE: Fucking worthless USPS lost my application. I am so angry. I will now be using Fedex for all my important mailings. I am so angry that there is no recourse of any kind. Stupid me for not mailing it in a traceable way.
IN CONCLUSION: Life is super awesome and I should probably pay incredibly minute, anal-retentive attention any time I try to do anything involving an institution of more than ten people.
