The coolest dream...
So I had the coolest dream. When I went to take a nap tonight around 6pm I knew from the get go that I'd have trouble falling asleep. I knew this because A) I was having trouble falling asleep and B) I'd been drinking caffiene recently. I kept startling awake. One time because I was throwing a ball in a dream and my right arm jerked so violently it threw my head off my pillow. The other time because I chomped down on my tongue (which has a habit of getting between my teeth when I sleep).
That's not the cool part. The beginning of the coolness was a very strange dream that is somehow connected to the next part and yet, not. There was some sort of little shop, like in a mall, but it was all decked out to be quaint and woodsy like some little cottage. A plump, kind, but mysterious little witch ran the shop. It was somehow tied to the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. What she sold was a chance to enter for a time a fantasy world like the movie. The reason this seems unconnected was that I just sort of started the dream sitting in this ship watching a girl, who looked like the eldest sister in that movie, doing something at a giant cauldron in the middle of the 'kitchen' of the shop. She came over to me and was like, "you're not leaving are you? I love you. You'll come back, won't you?" I assured her I loved her too and left. It was all very cute and weird and we parted with very chaste kisses on the cheeks. As I said, it was very cute and very weird.
The next part of the dream, equally weird but not as cute, was me waiting in the shop for my chance to try out this fantasy land the witch creates. The way I remember it working was you paid her a dollar and then these suitors appeared. They were sort of like little magic elf people. Some sort of contest would happen and the customer would choose someone from the suitors (who were magical and not real) and then that person would be their sort of dream boyfriend/girlfriend or something like that. It was all magical and fulfilled people's dreams and all that sorta thing.
So I waited in this shop and people kept coming in and getting their turn before me. I was getting irritated but I didn't say anything, it was interesting watching what happened. I remember a giant pumpkin carriage that looked sinister and swelled up into a giant pumpkin and then shrank and became something else. So this young woman comes in and gets to go ahead of me again. Go figure. The witch looks at me waiting and calls me into the little kitchen as well. She drags me over and sits me down with the other suitors. She's like, "you can play one of the suitors if you want. You'll get paid standard elf league wages," or something dorky as all hell like that. I was bored and thought, "okay, sure, whatever." Suddenly there's more than just a few magical elf thingies, plus me, plus a bunch of other "real people" who decided to play suitors as well. We all get these thin sheet metal shields, swords, and helmets. We trudge along into this big black room like a laser tag arena, black and foggy. The fantasy begins and suddenly there are hordes of knights and other sword weilding baddies attacking us. I go into crazy ass matrix dream mode. I spin and swing and spin. Dropping down low to kneecap people with the sword that has turned real. Using my shield and sword to knock aside attacks as I keep spinning and cutting into the bad guys.
Eventually the fantasy bad guys vanish and it's just me and the other suitors. There's a door we're all supposed to get to to leave. We're still decked out in this fantasy-like holodeck type stuff as we fight our way back to the door. I lay into the other suitors because it seemed like the thing to do, some of them were fighting me too. One of them is like, "it's over man! it won't matter what you do!" I slash across his head. It doesn't behead him, but his mask splits along the slash and turns into a kind of rubbery jelly. It falls away and he turns back into a normal clothes guy. When he leaves he doesn't have the shield or sword anymore, which is the mark of someone who passed. I file out behind all the other people (and there were a LOT!) who passed. Our shields and swords have turned back into little sheet metal ones instead of real ones. We all begin piling back into the shop and I hear mumbling about me. I get to see myself third person and I look badass. My mask makes me look like a demon, red and silver with shiny tusks coming down from the eyes and going below my jaw. I'm at the back of the line as we go up some steps and file into the sitting area where the witch is. I sidle off to the side near the front since there's only standing room. As I do I lift my mask. Two girls sitting in the front with dragon masks and face paint (who are also suitors) are laughing and looking at me. They say stuff like, "Look at him, he thinks she'll pick him. You think she'll pick you, don't you?" They tease me for lifting my mask as we go up the steps and I tell them, "I want her to see I have a face." That I'm not just a killing machine.
Finally the witch comes up and announces she's going to ask us questions to determine who stays. She asks me why I should be chosen. The dream broke down a little, I wasn't very deep in sleep and talking messed it up a bit. I couldn't talk much. I said something like, "I tried my hardest, I did the best." As each person went a light would shine on them that made it so they couldn't see anyone else there. Finally the witch says she'll point at the people who were chosen to stay behind and anyone in a row behind them has to leave. I'm in the front, waiting. I keep seeing row after row walk out leaving a person or two behind as they go. Finally it's down to me and four or five other people.
The girl who gets to choose comes up to me as I stand there, everyone is watching her. She has a sword and shield too and some sort of tabard over her shirt. She says she wants to fight me. Immediately I get the feeling she wants to see if I'll just try my hardest to cut her down out of an overdriven sense of competition. I'm starting to wake up at this point. My hands have gotten in a weird position and are falling asleep with pins and needles. I hold onto it as I fight her but it's becoming fuzzy. I decide that I won't slash her with the sword, I'll only use it to deflect hers. I keep shield bashing her to try to knock her down though. We fight for a while and finally I knock her down. As she's trying to get up I loom over her, reach down and grab the guard of her sword and yank it out of her hands. I turn my sword and point it at her chest, telling her she's beaten.
Then I wake up. Sucks, huh? But it was an awesome dream while I was having it. I was fighting so hard to stay asleep and in the dream. I wanted to know what would happen after that. I didn't really want the girl who I was fighting, I was still thinking about the one from above. (*points up*) I took my role in the little fantasy seriously though and went along with it. It was a really vivid and interesting dream. I'm sure it says all sorts of things about me.

I ocassionally have dreams within dreams, each of which get more vivid the deeper I go (I have dreams within dreams within dreams up to seven layers deep before.) The weird things is, to get out I always have to force myself to wake up and always have to wake up through each consecutive dream when I do.
I like the profile pic too. If you meet her in your dreams again, send her into mine :-)
