Ted Nugent's "Strangehold" is an amazing fucking song, even more amazing considering that asshole never even used to get drunk and party when he was a rock star. Either way, I want this song played at my funeral as they lower me into the ground.
Come to find out, my sister-in-law's father is like a hardcore drag racer in Seattle. As in, he has a team and everything.
Ladies and Gentleman.....I have now found a good mechanic for my truck!
So the plan for the truck changed a little. It's probably no longer going to be a 68-72 C10 for the simple reason that to get it to handle good is going to cost in the neighborhood of five grand. That's as much as I plan on spending on the fucking engine. The tranny is going to be about that much too.
No, I think a late-70s C10 that already handles decent would be better. Besides, I love the square box look.
The engine - I'm debating whether to keep it a more docile 550hp/650ft-lbs (I have longed for the day when I could call 650ft-lbs "docile" ) or go shit balls crazy and gun for 700hp and 800+ft-lbs (on pump gas baby!!!!!). Fuck, if I wanted to get near ten grand, I could be putting about 900hp to the tires on pump gas, but the engine would be blown like a John with a $100 bill ( ).
The transmission I'm looking at is a four-speed automatic with full manual shift (automatic shift isn't even an option) and it's rated at 1,200hp all for $2,895!!!!!!
I think I just busted a nut in my jeans. A 1200hp transmission for under $3,000. And it's a four speed, so it has that cool original feel. Fuck, a T56 six-speed is about $3,000 stock, to build it up to take that kind of power would cost twice as much.
No, I have found my transmission. I might have to get someone to build an adapter plate for me, but it'll be worth it.
Course, if I go all out with 900hp I'm going to have a short-lived, not-even-slightly-streetable engine, and I'll need a rear axle built by God.
Probably I'll keep it in the neighborhood of 600hp so I can at least drive it to church (not my church, just any church... who doesn't want to rev a 600hp engine in a church parking lot on Sunday??).
All and all, if I go for the square box C10, I'm looking at about 15-20k invested. Not too bad considering I'll have an eleven second street truck with a bullet proof engine that'll take a 200hp shot all day long, and a transmission that Thor's Hammer couldn't break. I have a feeling I'll be spending a lot of weekend's at the junkyard scavenging 12-bolt rear ends, but it'll be worth it!
