William Shatner is so fucking cool that when I listen to his album, it makes me that much cooler just for doing it. That cat is oozing cool.
Yeah, so despite my new found Shatner coolness, I am muy stupido. I didn't even know yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday until around 1:00, and then I turned on the TV and Dallas was playing!? What the fuck? So I turned off the TV cause I knew something was wrong, and wasn't sure if I was hallucinating. Now I realize that it was an exhibition probably.
Saw Anchorman yesterday. Can we say fucking stupid?? Some parts of it were cool, yeah, but for the most part it was just too fucking stupid.
Yeah, so the turbo I got, the T3, is going to be WAAAAAY too small for any of my half-cracked engine builds I have planned. So, I have three options;
1) Give it to my buddy for his SVT Contour. But, he probably won't want it cause he's a pussy like that. He wants to bore and stroke and would be too afraid to turbo it. Maybe I can talk him into it, but if he does bore and stroke it, then the T3 is going to be too small for that.
2) Wait until I get MY Contour SVT. But, then I have the same problem - I want a 3.0L SVT Contour, and the T3 will be much too small.
So, that leaves -
3) Come up with a new half-cracked idea.
AND I HAVE!!!! HAHHAHAHA!
See, I've been wanting to do something with either a VW Bug or VW Rabbit. I love 'em both, mostly because I used to live out in the desert where both were quite popular for autocrossing out in the wastelands. Any of ya'll ever been in a VW Bug that does over 100mph on roads I wouldn't do 50mph on my old dirt bike? I have! And it's FUN!
So, originally I was thinking of doing a Caddy 500 VW Bug. Know how to do it, and it's actually a very cheap build, and very easy. Given the time and a place to do it, this is something I could do in two weeks or less - that includes acquiring the car and the engine/trans.
However, a Caddy 500 VW would not be very streetable by any stretch of the imagination. We're talking 400+hp and 500+ft-lbs on a car that is so small and light it doesn't even have a fucking frame (they don't - they have shells). That kind of power makes traction a problem in a real car, let alone a little sheet metal turd.
SO! I've been thinking - why not find a wrecked Honda Prelude with an H22A and an automatic trans (this would be harder to find), or even a wrecked V6 Honda Accord (this would be much easier to find) and just take the engine/transaxle and bolt it all up to the rear end of the VW. If a Caddy 500 big block V8 can be made to fit, a tiny little Jap V6 surely can, and with enough room for a .....drum roll please.....TURBOCHARGER! ....or two
Plus, if I get a wrecked Honda then I could scavenge all kinds of shit off it - seats, gauges, brakes (I'd have to put the rear brakes on the front wheels of the VW...it'd be interesting to have a car with bigger brakes in the front), et cetera.
I bet a turbo V6 would put a VW into the 12s pretty easily. My big problem is how to shift a Honda transmission when it's behind the engine, which is behind the driver. Gonna have to ask some Honda experts about that. I bet if I get the right year I can find one that's all electronically shifted and would require only some cables to run.
