OK, I feel stupid. I just spent the last hour calling everyone I know for suggestions on muffler shops, even asked some of ya'll, and come to find out that my old mechanic IS open today. We got to talking and he said he could square me away with a nice Flowmaster set up (mmmmm...talk about the sexiest fucking sound every to come out of an engine...) for under three hundred. Very reasonable, especially considering all the shit it'll entail. Also, he'll have it done by the end of the day. Which is great news, save the fact that I have to wrestle up a ride over there (please, angry cousin of mine be happy when I call!).
Likely, though, I'll just have 'em bolt up a stock system and I'll do the performance exhaust down the line a ways. That way I'll go all out and do dual exhaust with really loud pipes. For such a small engine (it's not tiny, but it's under four liters) it has a big sound. Kind of deep too. Probably cause they don't have "silencers" (call 'em what you will, that's what I call 'em) on the stock exhaust system.
Jesus, that's so embarassing how I fucked up that exhaust. But, you know, the more I think about it, I've done the EXACT SAME THING twice with my old smaller Chevy truck, and never had a problem. I do it once with my new Dodge, and in the rain mind you (so the ground was a LOT softer), and I have to replace the whole system.
I'm going to clarify my previous rant about the pussification of American automobiles and post it in the next few days.
Am almost out of cigarettes.
More later.
