So I officially started my new second job today. Still not sure about how I feel about it. On the one hand I am going to be helping out an old friend and maybe get to do some really substantive work in some areas that I have not had the opportunity to work in yet. And there is the understanding that this temporary part time offer could become a full time permanent position. Which would allow me to escape the hell of my current corporate job and maybe find an area I can practice in that doesn't turn my stomach.
On the other hand I am going to be putting in 60 hours a week at the corp. job and then 25-35 hours at the second job. Which means not only will I not have time to take on extra work that is often offered to me, possibly resulting in my not being the person they turn to in the future, but I will have no time for the pro bono work that has been the only satisfying part of my career. But hey its only for six weeks, unless something changes.
So my first assignment (well second actually but first one was minimal and boring so we are gonna skip it) was to help my bosses (yeah I have two my old friend who I am helping out and his partner) to pick out artwork. Not sure why they thought I was qualified for this other than I was the moderate between their two extremes. I suspect it was my friend's way of letting me meet my other boss in a relatively relaxed setting. And I have to admit for a right wing fundamentalist conservative hawk, he seems like a nice guy. They are kind of an odd couple my friend is super liberal so far to the left that a neo-communist bleeding heart like myself thinks he goes just a little too far. Anyway it was a pleasant first day and seems like it may be an interesting experience. But damn am I gonna be tired.
Edit. just found out I am not going to have to work tommorrow. Woohoo just started and already getting extra time off, not hourly either so I am not losing anything. Sweet. Now If I just knew what to do with the unexpected free time. Sigh, would like to see a movie...but tired of going to em alone....just makes me miss the people I used to go to movies with.
