I just finished loading 8 bags of canned goods and other non perishable items in to our minivan to be dropped off at our local food shelf. While I am more than happy to help them out, as I truly believe they provide a valuable service to my community, I can't help but wonder why we have 8 bags full of things we don't want...

I received a Christmas card today from my former employer. A day late, with my last name misspelled and in all likelihood sent with the belief that I am a current employee. It both amuses and reassures me to see that they are as incompetent as ever.

Hahaha! Just when I regret leaving my job, they always find a way to remind me why I left!
radiofrank:
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at their stupidity, haha.

Edited December 24th: Apparently I don't know how to post a photo. Rendering this blog somewhat useless.

One of my favorite meals. So simple but really delicious. Grill some meat (skirt steak here but you can do it with almost anything) saute some veggies (I used garlic, onions, mushrooms & cilantro) and serve over rice. Top with a fried egg, some chili garlic sauce, chili...

I just found out that a childhood friend of mine passed away today. She was one of the kindest, gentlest people I have ever known. We hadn't been in touch much lately but had recently reconnected on Facebook. Apparently she passed away in her sleep, unexpectedly, but likely of natural causes. She was a year younger than me. Earlier this year I lost a different...

Last night I found out that a guy that lived down the street when I was growing up died.  I didn't know him that well since he was a couple of years older, but it still doesn't sem right.

I'm lost on here these days. Can't figure things out. Can't think of anything to say. Not sure I belong here anymore.

It is a lot to take in, that's for sure...

Lot of changes. You're a smart guy though. I'm sure you'll figure it all out.

I've just returned from another successful night of saving the world. You're welcome.

Oh really, why? dont yyou like changes?
chazstrummer:
I do most of my SG on my nook, but it was easier with the last format.  No comment editing or paragraphs when commenting and no emoticons are on my list of dislikes.  All live sets and review sets on one page isn't bad.

I've been having flying dreams recently. Not flying on a plane or with wings but just soaring through the air of my own volition. I don't know what they signify but they are pretty awesome. I wake up with a sense of elation and freedom like I have rarely experienced in the waking world. It's a pretty nice way to start the day.

I am happy to report that the insomnia has passed and I am once again sleeping like a baby. Had me worried for a while. I was afraid I was about to return to the horrible bouts of insomnia I suffered back when I first joined the site. Weeks on end where I slept one or two hours a night. Sometimes not sleeping at all....

Cleared up nicely and fairly quickly this time.

Very glad to hear from you, and gladder still to see you're sleeping.
melx:
Insomnia sucks. Glad to hear yours has passed.

I'm hoping that leftover Chinese food, Gentleman Jack, Neko Case & Sinclair Lewis' Main Street will turn out to be a cure for insomnia. If not, then I guess there are worse ways to spend an early Saturday morning.

sounds like heaven to me

I'd say that's a very good way to deal with insomnia.

I keep telling myself I'm going to post here more often. Doesn't seem to happen. I think the problem is that things are going relatively well for me lately. Don't get me wrong, that is definitely a good thing, but it makes for relatively little for me to post about. I tended to use SG to vent or talk about things I couldn't talk about...

Thank you. That's one of the kindest things I've heard in a while.

Did you ever hear back from your friends sister?
melx:
It's good to see you happy. The Bangkok burrito sounds awesome. I'll have to try that too.

I ran in to a friend from law school yesterday who has apparently become homeless. I'm pretty sure he is also suffering from some pretty severe mental illness. I tried to offer him some help but he refused to take it. I'm pretty bummed out about it. Of all the people I knew in law school, he was the most passionate about Justice. He really...

Austin Psych Fest - went this year with a buddy and it was just about perfect.

sorry to hear about your friend - there really isn't that much that separates a lot of people from that state, mental illness notwithstanding. my best to you both

Your last comment on my blog? Maybe the best ever, lol. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. You shouldn't beat yourself up over it though. Mental illness is tough to deal with when it's your everyday, run of the mill, garden variety stuff. The kind of mental illness that helps make one homeless and refuse the offer of help is the kind most of us can't even fully comprehend. You tried. Sometimes the best we can do is hope for the best. Maybe he'll get better, do better, be better. I hope so.
