So, I have been singing jazz with a quintet (now a sextet - heh) for about six months. I love it; it's music I've always enjoyed singing, and it's something I get to do for fun. We're even going to start getting paid periodically, which is mind-blowing to me because I have never gotten paid to something I completely enjoy other than giving shows at the Planetarium in Chapel Hill. I enjoy teaching, sure, but it's not something I do for fun in the shower. (Nobody should teach children for fun in the shower, by the way. PSA.)
Anyway, recently I decided that perhaps I should step it up a little. I have my own P.A. system, which is pretty rad, so I've got the equipment. I've been learning new songs so that I can increase my repertoire, and I intend to learn a couple new songs a week. The next step is to start looking the part!
I used to have, like, two fancy dresses and only one of them fit me. The always generous and amazing schiavona and his lovely wife, k_rex, took me shopping last Friday to find a nice dress for singing jazz. Thanks to their loveliness, I now own this:
I went out on my own and struck gold at TJ Maxx and Ross and bought four more dresses, too - so now I have several nice dresses for singing.
...and if you give a mouse a dress, she'll want to do her hair and makeup to go with it. So, now I am enlisting the help of my friends (and Sephora) to help me learn how to make my face and hair look nice and fit the whole jazz thing. Tonight we'll be getting together for the first time in a long while to have girlie night, which is like a sleepover except way cooler because we can drink (legally).
I'm hoping to get some pictures of me in the new dresses, too. I'll post 'em here if I do.

Girlie Night has been postponed due to illness. Poor schiavona and K_Rex have the plague. I hope they feel better, soon!

You look far better in the dress than that scrawny model.
