Dear Telemarketers,
How do you know that I have been "pre-approved" for your credit card when you don't even know what my first name is? I find it hard to believe this would be enough information to perform a valid credit check?
When did 7:30am and 9:30pm become acceptible times to call my house? (I'm not even gonna get into the Bell door to door guys showing up at 9pm
)
If you call every day between 9am and 5pm and I am not home, what do you think the chances are that I will be the day after that, or the day after that? Perhaps I am at work. Why must I actually answer the phone to get you to stop calling?
If I have turned your offer down more than a half dozen times in the past year, do you think perhaps that you could put me on a list and say "This guy doesn't want our shit"? Oh wait, I forgot, you don't actually know my name.
In conclusion, Stop Calling!!
Thank you,
Tek
Nothing I love more than being up since 3am for work, getting home and finally getting to rest for a couple of hours and being woken up by not one, but two telemarketing calls in a row. Well technicaly I was woken by one, then decided a few minutes later I would check my messages and found that another one was somehow stalking my phone.
I picked up the phone and it was silent. It hadn't rung or anything, but there was no dial tone. I clicked the hang up button a couple of times. Still nothing. I thought "WTF? I know I paid my phone bill and I just got a call like 5 minutes ago?" I clicked the button down again, holding it down for a few seconds, then let up again. Still no sound. I pressed a button, I believe it was the '*' key. *BEEP* And suddenly I hear "Hello, may I speak to the person with the first initial..." After I inform him I am not interested in his product I am forced to wonder a) why the hell couldn't I hang up on the guy, who apparently didn't even make my phone ring and b) why was he sitting for like a minute in complete silence while I messed around with the phone?
Believe me, I know what it's like to pretty much take any job you can to pay the bills. But does there not come a point when even slinging coffee at Tim Horton's or Starbucks becomes a more desirable employment opportunity than sitting all day calling up random people in the vague hope that one out of every 100 people won't just hang up on you, scream at you or worse? I can't see this being a very rewarding career. I usually try to be polite and just say I'm not interested, cuz I understand that it's generally not the person on the phone's fault they are told to call certain numbers at certain times. But every now and then you get the ones who give you attitude or won't take no for an answer that you just have to hang up on or worse.
I suppose that's the way of the future. The Telephone is for Sales Vultures and the Internet is for Porn. And I'm pretty sure the Home Shopping Network is one of the signs of the Apocalypse.

'Twas a pleasure to meet you last night.
The other sign is a Starbucks on every corner.
It was nice meeting you and your lovely lady last night.
