No EPL, no La Liga, not even Calcio this weekend, what to do, what to do? Anyways, how's your summer so far? Why is it that we ask that? or "how was your summer?" However, one doesn't usually hear someone asking, "so how was your winter"? or "how is your autumn going so far? Maybe because it sounds funny? I don't know, there should be something else behind it, maybe I should research into it.
So how's your summer so far? Mine is pretty good. I watched pretty much all of the World Cup games, and I have been waking up early on the weekends to catch some EPL and other European league games LIVE. By early, I am talking 4 AM. I also got to play a lot of soccer. At some point, I was playing nearly 4 times per week, and it got me pretty much in an excellent soccer shape. I stopped playing due to a lack of venue. Can you believe that we got the cops called on twice already? Just for playing soccer on a park? We have tried to call different cities in the area, but pretty much everyone tells us the same thing: you need insurance. And that's pretty much what it comes down to, you need insurance when you have 15 adults minding their own business and playing the beautiful game. It's really sad that we live in such a litigious society. They are afraid someone will get hurt and in turn end up suing the city. The funniest incident happened like 2 weeks ago. The attendants of this local park told us that the particular piece of grass we were playing on belonged to Edison. We could finish our game in 10 minutes, but we were not allowed to play again on it.
On another instance, we were told we could not play past a particular light post after a certain hour and that we look "too organized" since we had portable goals and color pinnies. Those AYSO people also wanted a permit and $1 million insurance if we wanted to continue playing at that park. Thankfully, my soccer season starts next week, and I will be able to once enjoy the beautiful game. It sure was fun while it lasted though. Playing for free and just going to parks and picking up games with complete strangers. Why don't you see more "soccer only" parks? Everywhere you go, you pretty much see a park with a basketball court, and kids waiting around because "they got next." Would it ever be a day when "I got next" on a soccer pitch?
I'll be sure to ask how your autumn is going later on.
