Good morning all! I have spent my morning learning, growing and making positive changes. All while I eat breakfast.
Now, this is not my usual SG blog but I think that what I have been pondering this morning is quite interesting and I would love to hear all if your thoughts. I just finished watching the documentary I Am. Has anyone else seen it? This documentary left many thoughts lingering in my mind but the not predominant one is that of connection and change.
As a Wiccan I believe that every living thing is connected, that we all share the same land, life and esentially are born from the one great spirit that is the Earth.
This may seem a little far fetched for most of you so I bring you some fact, in the form of science, ooh yeah, everyone love science! Haha.
Argon is a chemical element (Ar) it is also the third most common gas in the earths atmosphere. Amazingly Argon (named after the Greek word or lazy/ inactive) is inerpt, it undergoes nearly no chemical reactions. This means that this atom, which is created from the decay of potassium-40 in the earths crust, has remained the same for millions of years.
Now, I bring you this quote:
"Every breath you take has million of Argon atoms that were once in the bodies of Joan of Arc and Jesus Christ, that every breath you take has millions of Argon atoms that were in the bodies of dinosaurs sixty five million years ago, that every breath you take will suffuse life into the future as far as we can see... All of life is our biological kin"
- David Suzuki, scientist, environmentalist, author
Thinking that some of the air I am breathing was breathed by animals and people that no longer exist on this planet is such a mind blowing idea, so ponder me this; if you do not believe that we are all connected by one spirit can you at least agree that we could be connected if by nothing else, by the air that we breathe, by the a Earth that we share?
Now, I bring you another quote:
"...The vast majority of genes in our cells are identical to the genes in our pet dogs and cats... We have thousands of genes identical to the genes in fish and infects and fungi and trees. They are our relatives. We should be grateful and celebrate our dependence on our relatives, the rest of life on earth; and celebrate the air, the water, the soil, the sunlight that makes our lives possible."
-David Suzuki, scientist, environmentalist, author
Science tells us that we are all connected now, not only by the air we breath and the Earth we share but also by our very genes that make us who we are.
What baffles me is to know this as fact and still take more than our share, allowing people to starve and go homeless. What confuses me is to know this is fact and still not allow gay couples to get marriage if they so wish. What really makes my head hurt is to know this is fact and still rage wars against each other over pieces of coloured paper, land we don't really own and rights to leadership we haven't earned.
I was listening when Elvis sang don't be cruel, I sat up and heard John when all he needed was love and I understood well when Michael was starting with the man in the mirror.
So yes I might be a hippy at heart but what's so wrong with believing that we are all equals and that we should all have the same rights?
My belief system is simple:
Change is constant and inevitable.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Do unto others as you would have then do unto you.
What do you believe?
In closing, a morning face smile for you all. I hope you all have a great day!
Much love xxx
