I was so unaware that a human could get so close to an animal, especially if that animal belongs to someone else, and you only see it on occassion. It bothers me that my boyfriends dog died this past Thursday. Alli was hit by a truck in front of the house. I have never seen David so upset before. Alli was like a child to him, so I can only imagine his pain and loss. I am thankful that she died instantly, and there was no visiable signs that she had been hit. It made the burial so much easier. I had no idea how to comfort him. I don't know if I could even be comforted if something happened to one of my kids. I stayed three steps behind while he carried her to final resting place, and I stood silently while he dug her grave, and laid her to rest. I wrapped my arms around him from behind while he cried, and loved on her for the last time. He buried her with a pair of his nikes that she chewed up a couple months ago. I did not feel the pain till the next morning when I was trying to put on my pants. She would always bark at me, and chew on my pants leg while I was trying to get dressed. I broke down and cried for the first time, and when David came into the bedroom we cried together.
