first things first:
yay for jaguar, panther, tiger, boo for windows anything
and kids, if you still use CDs, take care to keep them away from scratchy things. Oh, and they don't like or need Coke, salami, nutella or cheese and buns to live a long and happy life. Splurge and get yourself an iPod, rip your discs once and put 'em away for the 24nd century archaeaologists to puzzle over...
Now. Finally found a version of Silent Night, Holy Night I've searched for off and on since the Berlin wall came down. It was on an eBay offering from some dude in Germany. I was there in Germany back then, saw a tv show that did a "behind the scenes" thing on Tom Waits recording his rendition of the tune. As I recall, he wasn't on camera much, just in the background in the recording studio. The main subject was a girl of ten or so with a voice that will make you cry with it's beauty. It made her cry. She said "it sounded like an angel was singing." So you get an aural impresson of how the gravel and broken saw blade voice of Mr Waits is mellowed by the unearthly sound of this girl. One of these days I'll take the time to slap together a website and put it up there to share. Maybe in time for Christmas.
The disc is a German company (ClassicHits) issued compilation with twenty different artist's renditions, including Johnny Cash, Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Mahalia Jackson and Jimi fucking Hendrix doing a simply wrecked take on Little Drummer Boy/Silent Night.
'nuf for now, off to get birthday goodies, maybe catch a bike ride in the evening sun.
