It's a goddamn shame this man didn't make it to forty:

I know I posted this one a while ago, but I do not care:

I might have even posted this too, but again I do not care:

That's all the culture for today.
agentofoblivion:
I am indulging in slightly different culture, making mike watch eraserhead he has asked more than once what it is about.

Tonight I am pulling double-duty: baking cookies & making spaghetti sauce. I managed to unpack my vinyl today, so I have some tunes to keep me company. Right now I'm having a little Cole Porter.

In other news, I refrained from buying replacement three-way bookshelf speakers for my stereo ($100). Go me! A couple hours later, I see two ceiling fans, an old desk, and...

This morning, I had a rather nice dream. I dreamt I was sleeping soundly, foxy female by my side. Such an idyllic scene it was. A dream I really had no intention of leaving. Forget work, I want to dream. biggrin

Anyway, she rolls over to whisper sweet nothings in my ear so I may wake up & earn my keep. After all, I must earn...

Today shall be spent rebuilding the hubs/replacing the wheel joints on the Blazer. On the upside, I only have 31 years of rust & neglect to deal with. surreal At least the spindles are coming off with minor persuasion from a padded BFH.

Hiccups so far:
--spindle bearing removal
--not enough solvent to clean bearings (oops)

Today is Bastille Day.

In other, less revolutionary news, my attic insulation & reflective barrier project is now roughly 50% complete. While it was cool up there today, I was still sloshing around in my coveralls wrestling with fiberglass. Blech. tongue

(I would also like to mention cellulose insulation is the debbil. mad )

At about 5:30, I got sick of sweating up a storm, so I...

Today, while driving home from work, I saw a sign outside a dining establishment at the corner of Eight Mile & Grand River that made me ponder.

"Try the surf & turf."

The dining establishment? White Castle. surreal Where, pray tell, is the "surf" in White Castle? Are they making shrimp rings now too?

This will require research.

Well, good luck with that.......I guess.

The idea of White Castle scares the hell out of me

My workplace is slowly being taken over by a corporate leviathan. The last time this happened to me, I was laid-off within three months. Needless to say, I'm a trifle paranoid. Paranoid SYH = angry SYH. Fair warning.

Also, the new(er) vehicle is a pain in the ass. I fix one fucking thing and something else breaks (or threatens to). I am about fed up.
stiles:
Honestly, if I had to pick between a '67-'73 American vehicle and a '75-87ish equivalent I'd go for the older one every time, if only for what you mention above... if I could find one that wasn't totally and rapidly rusting away.

I have a friend in Tuscon who works for an old-car scrapyard, if you want a rust-free '68-'73 C10... he can find one (and has, repeatedly and for a good price too).
missbernie:
true. but i didn't pay for the dress...
and i can't sell it. so, i may as well keep it!

Many, many moons ago--back when I finally convinced my parents to get DirecTV--I used to watch Cartoon Network religiously. On that fine channel, they had a show called O Canada!. Some of you may remember it. It was the first show to expose me to animation from the Great White North--namely, "The Big Snit", "The Cat Came Back", "Bob's Birthday", "Log Driver's Waltz", and...

I miss my truck. frown

Yes, it devoured gas & rust fell out of the roof when you went over a bump, but goddammit, it didn't leak oil out of every orifice after changing it. Yes, the brakes did go out twice, but I fixed them both times. Yes, it needed a new rear end because the outer bearing races in the left hub were self-destructing,...

at least it would be a pain in the ass that would make you happy. maybe. or that you could have fun grumbling about.

(nudge)

you're not going to give at all, are you?

when I was a little kid, I was fascinated with antique auto restoration. my grandpa was a tool and die maker and so I guess that's the tinkerererer in me. I just never went anywhere with it.

As promised, details:

On my way to work Wednesday morning, I blew the engine in my truck. Not whole lot of warning either. After passing a red Escort, there was a little more vibration than usual, so I started to slow down. Right about the time I hit 70, I heard a chainsaw ripping through concrete, the truck started to shimmy violently, and the cab...
