well, it's been a pretty dull weekend. Saturday went to the library and today about all I did was read.
I find it strange that it was such a nice day (especially in the shade) but there were hardly any people out enjoying it. I was told it was because nobody comes out on Sunday afternoons. What does that mean?
anyway, just started reading Steppenwolf...

Just checking in. Whats new?
funny how life can be so ironic. I try my first pot and then get called into take a pre-employment drug test. try to hold something you love too tight and it distances the very thing your trying to hold.
Oh well, guess that's what lifes all about: the learning, growing, and improving, messing it all up and trying again.
That's what tomorrows are for...

Hi Friend!
ratoncitoperez:
For real?? -did you really have to take a pre-employment drugs test!! That's absolutely shocking! Unless of course, the test was to confirm that you are a user. Because as was all know, those who are most disposed to transgressive and risk taking actions tend to make the most dynamic and effective leaders.
For examle, Steve Job's key criticism of his principal rival (Bill Gates) is that Bill would have been more innovatve if he'd taken as much acid as Steve has. I think the recommendations of a guy who was worth $100 million by age 25 are more valuable than the regressive views of the average HR executive. Agreed!? If we had a no drugs -no job rule in the UK we'd lose half the civil service, most of the Government, the attorney general (fact!) and Richard Branson, amongst others....
Anyway, I really do hope that it hasn't prejudiced your application.

Its been an interesting weekend. Went out Friday with some friends and didnt get to bed till after 3am. Phone woke me at 0730 and drove 400 miles (round trip) for about a 5 mile hike in torrential rains. As soon as I cleaned up went and met a buddy at the bar, then after party at his place. Had my first experience with a...

- Howdy, and the sailing question...
- I had never sailed on anything but a Sunfish, until I was 29. I was stationed in Panama, and a Warrant I worked with had a little O'Day he kept on a trailer. But he didn't have a trailer hitch, and he knew that I did. So he invited me to go sailing one day. And to bring my truck! So I sailed with him a couple of times, and I really enjoyed it. Then I got transferred to Tennesee. That was '87.
- Got out of the army in '93, worked a little, then in '95/'96 got involved with a schooner sailiing out of Manhattan, took some sailing classes, chartered a little 27 footer in Maine, then crewed a delivery from NY to St Thomas. All in the same year. I was almost 40!
- Since then I've chartered in the Caribbean, crewed on a number of deliverys, transited the Panamz Canal, and been the mate on a tall ship. It kind of gets in your blood!
- And it all started because of a trailier hitch...
- Sailing and Aviation use a lot of the same lingo, use charts/maps and visual or elctronic devices to navigate. Everyone uses GPS now. Both are outside activities, sailing more so. A sail is just a vertical wing, so the mechanics of the "engine" are essentially the same, yay Bernoulli! To be safe in both activities, you have to pay attention and be conservative. Weather is a big factor in both. There were a bunch of new things to learn in sailing, but I was pretty comfortable with the transition, way more so than a newbie just off the street.

Well, I made it back to Tulsa in one piece. As many of you know (or dont, not sure) I just rode my motorcycle from Portland to Tulsa this last week. I left Sunday June 27th in the afternoon. That day I went as far as Hood River before I figured out that I was about to loose my rear fender and tail light, so...

That sounds like quite an adventure! I drove from NY to LA, the northern route, around the time of Sturgis last year. America's highways were filled with bikers.
beatrice:
post some pics already.
I hate having to get back into the regular routine of life after a break. This last week was just torture, and my schedule isn't even that bad. I am still trying to figure out how to shrink the pics from my trip so I can post them.
If anyone wants to see a few from my visit with Beatrice she has some posted.

yeah, well *you* were supposed to be my workout partner while you were here and you see how well that turned out. different kind of workout, i guess.

Sounds like you had a cool trip there - 785 miles in one day - pretty good going I'd say! Especially on US roads - how'd you manage to avoid all the speedcops? Whevenever I'm Stateside I always seem to attract 'em like a magnet...
Just got back. Had a great visit with beatrice, didn't want to leave.
The ride from Oregon to Colorado was great, but from there to Tulsa was . Did 785 miles in one long day yesterday, so wiped today, but happy I'm stiff but not sore. Will try and get more posted later, along with some pics.

- Yes, I wore jeans under the chaps, and they were comfortable.
- I graduated from Embry Riddle, in Daytona, with a BS in Aeronautical Studies. The flight program was very structured, run mostly by ex-military when I was there (78-84), and if it's still like that, I can highly reccommend that program. I was in the army for ten years as an aviation officer/Blackhawk pilot, that's how I know the Riddle program is/was a good one. I'm sure Fight Safety's program is excellent too, but you can't get a BS there, along with your flight training!
- Love your floatplane pic!

yay! can't wait!
It's been a good day, humid but not to hot. I sat by the river for several hours. Managed to finish both American Gods and Villa Incognito. both good books. Also got a lot of the trip planning for my ride back from Oregon done. I love sitting outside and still getting things done.
