I really ought to write a real journal, but it feels like so much has happened over the past few months, I wouldn't know where to start...

I'm happy that fall is here. It's my favorite time of the year. Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to be for Halloween...

HALLOWEEN UPDATE: I think I'm going to be a werewolf...or maybe...

Wow. So I really did drop off the face of the earth for a while, there, didn't I?

So, I managed to get through both my last opera directing gig (ok reviews, fantastic audience reception) and a production by my theatre company (fantastic reviews and reception) realtively unscathed. However, I spent most of my free time between then and now in bed, sick as a...

Well here's hoping you can survive this despite your annoying Stage Manager!

Good luck on your show! Maybe you can go on a trip to Colonial Williamsburg for a couple days or something -- it would be educational!

OK, so I started rehearsals today for the next opera I'm directing (Mozart's Don Giovanni).
So far so good, but...I may drop off the face of the earth for a little while.
If I don't respond to comments or whatnot for the next bit, it's not because I don't love you all...
It's because when I'm not in rehearsal, I'll probably (hopefully) be asleep....

How are the rehearsals going?

OK, I really ought to update...except that nothing really exciting has happened in the last couple of weeks.

Surely I'm more interesting that this! Let me think about it, and I'll get back to you...

OK, so the opera is done. AIDA is put to bed, and good riddance. The show was a pretty decent success, at least as far as ticket sales go. The audience seemed to like it. Personally...well, I liked the animals. The camel was very cool, and surprisingly friendly (however, I can now tell you that camel farts are some of the most noxious things on...

Did you hear Concord Mills is doing a showing of all the Best Picure nominees? It's either Friday or Sat. from 11 am to 11pm.

I am too pretty and cool to be in Columbia which is why I'm moving to Charleston.

AIDA update:

10 days in, and the show is completely staged (with the primary cast) and mostly staged (with the secondary cast). One more day in the rehearsal hall, and then we move into the theatre (but alas, not onto the stage until Friday). So far, the cast seems nice enough, and everybody sings pretty well. Unfortunately, the director doesn't seem to have much of...

How goes preparations for the next Opera?

Well, no rest for the wicked.

I'm about to plunge head-first into rehearsals for our next opera -- AIDA.

For those of you who are not so much down with the opera stuff, AIDA is a massive, Cecil B. DeMille-style epic set in Ancient Egypt (but sung, of course, in Italian). For a lot of people, it's most famous for having inspired a really shitty...

Happy New Year to everybody in SG land.

Hope everyone had a great holiday. I spent the week in Tennessee, visiting my family. It was pretty nice -- I got to see a couple of old friends (who I hadn't seen in a long time), and generally was able to relax for the first time in a while. I also got a lot of great...

With what I got for Christmas I was able to afford a ticket for Tchaikovsky's Fifth and see Sweeney Todd. I thought it was a pretty solid movie, although rocky in some parts, with the best singing coming from the younger actors.

Happy New Year!

So, I'll be leaving to visit my folks in Tennessee tomorrow morning, and like many of us, I'm not sure how much I'll be online over the next few days.

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful holiday, and as a parting gift, I'll leave you with this twisted little story from Neil Gaiman (he had it illustrated and used it as a Christmas...

I suppose I should update -- I'm really bad about that.

Well, it's December. Apparently, nobody told the weather gods, as it's been almost 80 degrees outside all week. And people still debate global warming? surreal

In other words, I started rehearsals on Monday for another opera: my fifth year in a row directing our company's "holiday show." Ugh. I mean, it's charming and all, and...
