Motorcycling is incredibly humbling. Most of the time I can handle my bike, but I enjoy twisty back roads a lot and it's still something I'm not entirely comfortable with. It's a huge jump from driving cars where I have a lot of experience, comfort and confidence, to one where all of these things evaporate, and my good reflexes for driving are left back in the cage; riding is still very cerebral for me.
I have had a couple of near misses (that even if they went wrong, wouldn't have been so bad apart from scraps and damage to the bike since I wear protective gear all the time), but they definitely instill a lot of respect into what I'm doing into me, and fortunately each has been both inconsequential and has taught me a lot about how to adjust my technique. I'm not sure how bad off these are, really, but it's enough to grab my attention and make me adjust my riding habits every time.
I hope I'm fortunate enough to continue getting lessons in riding that end up being inconsequential, at least long enough to become a really good rider.
