Today's Quote from the Wild Words from Wild Women desk calendar that they bought me at work:
"Love won't be tampered with, love won't go away. Push it to one side and it creeps to the other." Louise Erdrich
I'm not sure exactly what that means, because I have looked at it several different ways so far. Anyway, no matter how I read it, it reminds me that my FRIENDS love me and my love substitute was just that ... a poor substitute for the real thing. Good sex only goes so far.
Another thing that amused me this morning was listening to Bessie Smith sing "Do Your Duty" during my morning drive. I love Bessie Smith ... I mean, she was demanding sexual equality and I *think* this song was from 1931 if I remember correctly (I probably don't, but if anything it was even earlier). Anyway, she says in this song, "Don't come quacking like a duck..." If you remember my comment about if it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, etc. a few days ago, you'll know why this struck my funny bone.
Well, I think I shall go find some late 70's/early 80's power pop music to keep myself on an even keel today. Maybe I'll burn a CD for the grand homecoming of my car ... it's too cold to put the top down today, but "Teenage Kicks" blaring from that car always makes me feel 17 again, even with the top up. Only in a good way. Hey, it matches my basic maturity level sometimes. Anyway, it will be so nice to have my car back after driving a freakin' SUV for the last month.
I have no babysitter tonight so going out on the town is out of the question, but ...
Anyone have any ideas how I could make this a great day for both my little boy and his mommy? My emotional crises have taken their toll on him AND his father being out of state has made him lonely. Today I want to make everything I do count towards SOMEONE's happiness! And that, in turn, should make me happy! Yay! Win/win!
Love to you,
~Suzy
