OK no one read my last blog and i thought it was fucking hilarious so i figure i will do something completely different and write about a REAL topic. Ok people i really need your help for this one because i am confused. What makes a band an emo band? is it the make up? the black clothes? the references in their lyrics about being alone/dead, or wishing that they were? is it about singing about losing a significant other or suicide? If thats the case, i cant think of a single artist who has never sang about death/a break up. so that must mean every artist is EMO. From 50 cent, to nickleback (who fucking blow) to Madonna, to SLAYER. Black clothes? everyone wears black clothes! Davey Havok from AFI is considered EMO because he sings about lost love, being in darkness, and he wears make up. NEWS FLASH!!!!! all heavy metal bands sing about being in darkness, and are they considered EMO? of course not!!!! EMO band wear make up, but would you call Motley crue, Ozzy, Vains Of Jenna, or even Ville Valo, EMO for wearing make up? FUCK NO! and as far as lyrics go, bands that sing about death, dying, or suicide must obviously be EMO right? WRONG! prime example take the band AIDEN. everyone i talk to classify AIDEN as an EMO band. sure, they sing about darkness, dying, suicide, they wear black, and they even wear make up....BUT SO DO THE MISFITS! I'm sure Jerry Only would fucking kill someone if they called him EMO. As you can see im very fucking lost as to what is emo and what isn't. Or is emo just what we call a shitty pop punk band that no one really likes? I need answers! Dropkick Murphy's said it the best, "pop punk tough guys with neck tattoos, if you guys are hard, then I'd rather be soft."
