Well. I guess it's time to update. I've been in the lab constantly making hours to compensate for the four day road trip. My sweetness is moving back into her college today so I have a Saturday morning with not much to do.
The phone: I'll called qwest, and they were like, "Oh, the problem is in the central office. It says it'll take two days to turn it back on, but I bet we can do it in half an hour." Which says to me that someone set their coffee down on my switch and they had to send a flunky over to flick it back on. 30 minutes later the phone was working again.
The trip: Since it's already been covered here, I'll just cover the parts she didn't mention.
-My sister's boyfriend is a pretty good guy. If anyone was going to bang my little sister, then I guess that I'd pick him. The were very cute with their gazes and hand holding, it kind of reminded me of another couple I know.
-That sushi was really fucking good! It's called Kaihana and it's right around the block from where my sister lives. I'm so fucking jealous. They're coming down to portland in two weeks to introduce her boy to our mom and I'm going to take them to Subaro's because they picked up the sushi tab. It was really good that they did because I had $6 left after the trip.
-We heard a story about my uncle going up in flames from a grease fire on the stove. It was pretty bad and it melted his fingers together. It's been two years and he's practically as good as new considering that he was covered in burning oil.
-My grandma lectured me on being lazy in school and how I needed to buckle down and apply myself. I couldn't stop laughing because I'm so old and Ven was right there. Shit, it was funny! But I really did listen. My grandma reminds me of an old wise elephant mother. Ya know, the one that remembers where the water holes are and leads the pack to them. Anyway, if she's got something to say, I'm going to listen. Still it was fucking funny! I guess you had to be there.
-My grandma and aunt evvone are news junkies too. That's where I get it! They're both crazy conspiracy theorist too! Just like me! Hands down my favorite part of the stay in roseburg was when my grandma swore us to secrecy about our conversations. So that's where my raging paranoia towrds "The Man" comes from!
-We didn't get to shoot guns in roseburg because of the rain, but it did make the drive along the macKinzy (sp) river that much more beautiful. Zipping down a winding highway with the river on one side and national forests on the other. We'd climb a hill and then dive down into the greenery where you could see the clouds being born on the leaves of the trees. We hit the top of the cascades a little before sundown, but it was too overcast to watch it. Instead we drove into the high desert past sisters and watched the sky colors change on the sagebrush.
-We tried finding a place to sleep around smith rock (watch out for deer!), but we ended up on the side of the road. In the middle of the night I had a dream that we were being abducted by aliens and when I woke up there were lights flashing in the car and a noise going "Be-ew!Be-ew!Be-ew!". It was a fucking tow truck come to collect us! I started hopping into the driver seat so we could take off before he could pull up, but he was like, "are you ok?" and I said "ya, we're just exhausted." And then he left. Sleeping in the car turned out to be a rather dumb idea on my part, but we did get back on the road pretty early and we caught the dawn in the painted hills.
-The painted hills are very pretty, if I may wax metrosexual for a moment. Because it was early, all the animals were out before the sun made it to hot. Venice didn't sleep well in the car and I would keep stopping on the road going, "oo!oo! a coyote! oo!oo! rabbits! oo!oo! a family of quail!" and she would rub here eyes and go "huh?Wah?" She did see the quail though before they flew off. I was driving extra careful too so that we wouldn't squish anything.
-We pulled into service creek station for breakfast. we were all stinky and rubbing out eye boogers. There was one lady there to take orders, cook and work the tourist counter but we were the only ones there. After seattle, everyday was eat breakfast and then drink coffee and milkshakes for the rest of the day. Punctuated with stops for icecream when we'd see a sign.
-We stopped at the fossil place near the pallisades rocks and looked at fossilized sticks and leaves. The park ranger was hanging around so we had to be respectable and not do anything untoward on a national monument. Damn you park ranger and your peeping eyes! We did see a hawk over head too that was circling and screeching. Very cool and worth the stop. In the same area we drove by the OMSI remote camp that brought back childhood memories of "Venice country" to my navigator.
-After the fossil monument, it was impossible to stay awake. We were constantly pulling over to get more coffee. When we reached the dalles I got straight esspresso and that only lasted long enough to reach the falls. We went to one fall and it seemed rather imbued with a magical energy or something. I felt strangely recharged after standing in the mist hugging my lady. We stayed off the highway after that and went up to the Vista house and took the streets back to my place. We washed the stink off and took a four hour nap before I drove her home.
-Even though we were completely exhausted and sore, I want to plan another road trip again. Maybe down into california along the coast or a drive by of crater lake. We'll figure something out.
I think that's pretty much it. She's starting her school again so I'll have extra time on my hands. That's fine because I need to get more on the stick with my guitar practicing and recording. My work schedule is very flexible (it's pretty much whenever I feel like working) so when her school schedule gets settled I'm sure things will work out easily.

you and v should drive all the way south down the california coast, and say howdy to me.
