Fun in Terre Haute: stopped by the local Wal-Mart, had to use the restroom. As I stood there, uhh... "concentrating," a slow, booming voice calls out, "Now where'd yuh get Chuck Taylor All-Stars?"
Looked around. Just me, and whomever was in the stall next to me. My right foot was within his view. "Oh... DSW Shoe Warehouse, I think."
"That in Terr' Hut?"
"No. Indianapolis."
"Figures. Thank yuh, pal."
I hurried up and got out of there.
Wandered around Wal-Mart for a while, gave the creeps to a few employees. Looked in vain for Celest, who unbeknownst to me had finally walked out of the store the night before. That Wal-Mart was hectic, and felt bigger than my own location. I was worried for a bit that she'd think I had skipped out on visiting her, but now I know she was just kicking back at home.
The Indiana Theater, where the "party" (or whatever DJ events are called anymore) was held, was gorgeous. Looks like it was built in the 1920s, and has been maintained well. Much better than the beaten-down concrete hovels where things usually get thrown. Met up with Sqook, met a couple of his acquaintances, enjoyed a varied mix of DJs. It's been a while since I've been around a group of kids who do the weird hippy-style dances that I do; I get mocked at dance clubs, and feel at home at these things. Go figure. A couple of pretty labret-pierced girls danced with me off and on through the night; with the event being all-ages, though, all I could think of was "they could be teenagers." I'm old.
Shortly after Nik left, I decided to head back home as well. Found a Pilot truck stop that had a 24-hour Subway, and made a pitstop, where I discovered that Subway has a breakfast menu. Microwavable pre-cooked rectangles of egg, microwavable sausage, etc., placed on the usual Subway bread. A gnarled truck-driver in front of me got one, and at first I contemplated getting an egg and cheese one, until I saw the guy begin opting for his toppings. Okay. Imagine: eggs and sausage on bread. Good so far (if bland), right? Now add sliced tomatoes, pickles, banana peppers, and some mayonnaise.
Easier and less gross to just get the usual Veggie Delite.
My second trip to outlying areas in three weeks; I've forgotten how much I loved being out on the road, traveling, going to random things. I've got a (semi-)reliable car, I've got weekends off... I just wish I had more places to go. I miss my old road-trips to Chicago, but i don't have anybody to visit up there any more.

That sounds FANTASTIC. Exactly what I was looking for. You wanna go Friday or Saturday? I'm off both days at the pizza shop.

You might find this amusing (if you haven't seen it already, that is)..
