so today i've sat at home and registered for classes all day long.
back to unlv for architecture but this time with more inspiration? i dunno but i've been looking at some of my favorite buildings and architects all day including
alvar aalto
anton gaudi
jean nouvel
and someone introduced me to hundertwasser..he's pretty interesting.
i also really love japanese space saving concepts and bamboo, wood, iron, and other more organic materials. i think architecture should serve function as well as look good and belong where it is. for instance, falling water does not belong on a new york city block. it should be nestled in the woods. likewise i don't see a skyscraper in the middle of the forest although i imagine that could work... i dunno.
the final thing i really love about architecture is the texture and form (shape) aesthetic. that seems to be my favorite play is the materials used, their organization and the shape they are in. i'm just talking about exteriors but just imagine
instead of just making some wooden shelves, lay a pattern of stone against an inside wall that creates shelves and nooks to place pieces of art and whatever else. the wall can have shape and can lead into different areas and ideas in a structure. Really it can go anywhere. now i just need to go somewhere and work hard there.
