Holding: on to the experience of seeing Brokeback Mountain. I loved the film, thought it was well paced and beautifully constructed. I also thought it's the best work I've ever seen Heath Ledger do (not that I've seen many of his films since his early days in Australia). But Jake Gyllenhaal's performance was definitely the highlight for me. Yes, I'm somewhat biased; I've always thought that boy is sex-on-legs. But he is such a confident actor, able to make interesting choices and see them through with both subtlety and strength. His representation of that character's faith and good humour and desperate need and endless empathy has left me with a warm, pulsing sadness in the chest and a melancholic smile on my face.
Buying: a suit to wear to my JET interview. Yes, thought I'd go whole hawg for the Japanese government. Of course the suits I like are all $900 out of my price range.
Eating: home-made bread. We got a machine. It rocks. White bread with lashing of butter and vegemite - too, too good.![smile](https://dz3ixmv6nok8z.cloudfront.net/static/img/emoticons/smile.0d0a8d99a741.gif)
