An open letter to the people in my English class:
Look, it's not that fucking hard, okay? Either do the reading or fake it in class. Do NOT, under any circumstances, admit you have not done the reading.
A confession: I did not do the reading. I had not so much as taken the book out of my car since the last class. When I...

no, YOOOOOU are!

god you're arrogant!

I just watched the first half of Angels in America, which is a total of six hours long. I really kinda didn't mean to, but it's really interesting. Pretentious as hell, but I haven't finished it, so it's hard to know if it winds up working in the end or if it just stays weird through parts. But it's definitely good and if you didn't...

I read the play in Play Analysis, when I was a drama student a few years ago. It made for some pretty interesting class discussions. I think it would be really awesome to see it on stage. As far as the tv version goes, I saw it a few months ago on tv, and I was happy with how they presented it. I kinda liked the idea that the actors played more than one role because in a way that made it more theatrical.

"You suck at having a penis." made my week.
I really should be writing an argumentative essay for my English class. I'm not.
My thesis is supposed to revolve around Jessica Mitford's "The American Way of Death" and Jonathan Swift's always cool "A Modest Proposal." The former looks at the practices of American funeral parlors - it's a selection from a book that specifically focuses on what exactly happens during the embalming process. Swift's...

Maybe the link could be something about shocking the reader out of their comfort zone/denial. Swift's essay, while not to be taken literally, serves to force the reader to confront their own socio-economic prejudices.
I doubt many of us have come up with his solution to overpopulation, or the cycle of poverty, but HAVE thought for at least a split second about the problem and some non-PC, possible grisly solution to it. Some might even say that the current treatment of the world's poor is akin to eating their babies.
Mitford's is meant to make people face the tangible reality of death- another uncomfortable subject preferably swept under the rug. Truth be told, both essays serve to confront the reader with the reality of human suffering and therefore mortality.
Wow, I really miss being in college. Thanks for that.

Hmm...for some reason the funeral paper reminded me of a study I read about OB/GYN visits, and how they are strictly socialized so that we can pretend that what's going on is completely medical and never sexual. It's similar because we seem to avoid knowing what exactly happens after death because we don't want to think about the finality of it.

I went and saw an exhibit at a museum that used actual dead bodies to show the human anatomy. It was called "Body Worlds," and if the idea interests you and you live in the Los Angeles area, I recommend it. It's really quite fascinating to actually see how all of your internal organs fit together and all that. If you want to get an...

That exhibit is awesome. I work at a hands-on science museum and I wish we had something that visceral and real.
P.S. Has anyone ever told you that you look a little like Dennis Quaid?

Thank you for that. It made my morning.

Sometimes it's fun to go through picture sets backwards and watch all the women go and put their clothes on. Like a less depressing Slaughterhouse Five.

I like your profile pic. I was scrolling through that virgin thread, and every time your little pic came up, I thought "ooh!" For some reason I think it's really hot. I don't know why I'm telling you this. It's kind of silly. hmm.
Well, I'm gonna post it anyway.
Yes, I have tried the Slaughterhouse Five method of set-viewing... but was not clever enough to call it that.
