Been a little while since the last time I published a post, it seems. Things are progressing at pretty much the same rate, nothing to really talk about there. My birthday is this Sunday. Maybe I'll do something, maybe not. I usually start out wanting to do something and thinking about it off and on all month, but then when it really gets down to the day itself my enthusiasm has burned itself out. I guess I'm just the sort who enjoys the planning more than the execution? Who knows...
My weekend was spent with the family, for the most part. Chris decided to finally get working on my dad's driveway, so we spent a good part of Sunday pulling up and moving the railroad ties that framed the drive and then tearing up the garden areas to either side, which seemed a shame to me, but oh well, they want to be able to expand it so two vehicles will be able to fit in there with decent clearance on either side, I guess. I don't blame them, as narrow as the road is and the way the neighbors drive I wouldn't feel all that comfortable having to park my car on the street either.
So for some reason I suddenly decided I want to be able to make fried rice with some competence. So every other day or so for lunch I've been working on coming up with my own recipe that I'll be happy with. Everything has turned out really well so far, so I'm pretty sure I'll get it locked down sometime this week. Which will be cool. I also went out and bought a new springform pan, since I've searched everywhere and still can't find my old one. So now I can try my hand at making sachertorte, maybe this weekend or for my birthday thing, if I have one. It should be awesome anyways.
With summer and sunny weather coming up, I'm considering trying my hand at the manliest of the cooking arts. Of course I speak of barbecuing, and all the fiery pleasures that entails. I'll leave the slab of beef to the more primitive sorts, as I've long since figured that out, and this year turn my attention to chicken breast and all the marvelous things you can do with it and a grill. At some point there will no doubt be lemon and also black pepper involved. Exciting.
