So this blog has been loooong overdue and I'm very stoked to finally find some time and update you all on the whirlwind that has been my life! I haven't really written a proper blog in ages so be prepared for a serious update...(this is going to be done in parts cause I have a tendency to ramble and there's just so much to talk about!)
Firstly, the most exciting moment that has happened has been getting engaged! In May I had been on tour with Ray from Teenage Bottlerocket in support of his solo record that came out (which is super wicked and you should all check it out! Ain't no shame in plugging a pal's musical endeavours ;) ). He had played Toronto the night before we were to leave for Pouzza Fest and sleep was not much of an option that night as the party continued well on into the morning (9am....guh). My partner, the guitarist in his band, his wife/my best friend, and myself left that morning for Montreal at 9:30am. The four of us were crammed into a small car without AC on the hottest day of the summer, and naturally, hungover/sleepless me puked all over the back of the car....twice. My best friend kept offering up her face wipes so that I could refresh and revive myself, but I told her I was just gonna maintain my dirtbagness from tour and just deal with it. At that point I mentally prepared myself for a night of sweat, booze, and just general grossness. No fucks given!
Finally we arrived at Foufs in Montreal and my partner was playing two sets that night, one in his band Dragged In and one in his other band Brutal Youth. So we loaded in gear, set up the merch table and were settling into the venue. Finally....we were home! I had pushed through my no sleep torture and was finally accepting the fact that I was up for over 30 hours. The things we do to ourselves, right? Jesus.
Dragged In played and they killed it. A few bands were playing before Brutal Youth took the stage so Pat and I went to an A&W across the street to get a quick bite to eat. This is where he cryptically asked me if I was "ready for my big moment" and slipped an onion ring on my finger. I was so out of it at that point so I just laughed, ate the onion ring from around my finger, and didn't think anything of it. We then made our way back to Foufs.
Brutal Youth were setting up and ready to go so my best bud and I made our way up to the front of the stage to watch our dudes do what they do best. The crowd was absolutely amazing and energetic and Foufs was totally packed with all of our buds...it was truly a great moment, One of Brutal Youth's best shows. Halfway through their set, they all kind of pause and Pat starts chatting about how everyone in the band had their partners there that night and how rare and amazing that was. He then pulls this nice sweater out of nowhere and changes into it. Now, if you have ever watched Brutal Youth perform you know that Pat ONLY plays in his Weird Al shirt. That's his "thing". So I immediately knew something was up and that feeling was secured when he asked me up on stage. WHAT. THE. FUCK. Okay, let me paint you a quick picture here.....
Me: a sweaty, unshowered dirtbag who has been wearing the same torn up, dirty Minor Threat shirt for 3 days, drinking through a hangover and haven't slept in over a day and a half with puke all over her pants.
Pat: a charming, magnetic SHOWERED dude who for once isn't bleeding from his head and has the crowd captivated for what is next to come in his nice, clean pullover sweater.
Foufs: The biggest show for the first night of Pouzza that was filled with an energetic crowd with all of our friends surrounding the front of the stage, singing along.
Okay, so. My heart is pounding and I'm pretty sure everyone can hear it as I climb up onto the stage. I honestly can't remember everything he said leading up to it but he then pulls out a ring and asks me to marry him. Obviously I was ecstatic and couldn't wipe the smile off of my face but all I could think was "dammit!!!! I should have taken Nicola up on those face wipes in the car after I puked!!!" I was beyond excited though and I quickly sobered up after that life-changing "yes" escaped from my mouth. People were cheering and pretty much everyone had their phone out recording the whole thing. It was pretty surreal.
I finally scurried off stage and went back to share that whole moment with Nicola (who knew the whole time, hence the continuous offering of face wipes) and was excited to watch Pat play the song he wrote for me in a whole new light. But instead I was buried by a ton of hugs, both from friends and total strangers. It was all so incredibly overwhelming but I wouldn't have it any other way. It was perfect.
Anyways, another blog is soon to follow, filled with more crazy happenings in my life as of late :)
Love you and thanks for reading! xx
