Whats up people!
Been a while.
Seems i've been so busy lately O_o
But i've finally gotten around to the next SG study
In the interest of getting out of my comfort zone and learning something new, I tried out a new medium....oils, for the first time in my life! I've always wanted to try them.
My respect for painting, and oil painting in particular has shot up about a thousand fold. My god is it fun. And also confusing. I don't really understand how the paint will react yet and mixing color is a whole other beast of a subject to tackle lol. And to see what the old masters could do with this colored paste is freaking mind blowing!
All that aside, I fucking love to paint! I feel like i've just discovered a missing piece of myself. Turns out i'm far more drawn to the traditional materials than I am to digital. It's always nice to make a discovery like that
Anyways, this is based off of a picture from Ari's incredibly beautiful set, "Delicious Torment"
As you can see, it's still a work in progress. I've been putting off those hands lol. Anyways, the actual painting is a bit lighter and the colors are a little more saturated but I couldn't get the photo to pick that up.
If any of you photographers have and tips on camera settings and lighting to take a picture of a painting I would be incredibly grateful for any advice. I have a canon rebel Digital SLR.
Thanks again for stopping by! More updates on this piece to come.

talamia - One of my favorite sets on SG!
VastPalette - Thank you for the camera tips! I'll try that out later today. I guess I had this idea built up in my head that oils would be so difficult that I shouldn't touch them until i'm proficient with drawing and value and other such excuses. I let myself be intimidated by the idea of them haha. That and the initial cost seemed high for all the materials. But I recently inherited a badass easel that belonged to my grandma, who bought it in the Philippines back in the 60's! Score. She also got me a basic set of oils after seeing how excited I was over the easel.... life was kinda screaming at me to finally pick the damn things up I guess lol
Clean up is pretty straight forward, I'm using low odor Turpenoid to clean the brushes and I made a disposable palette by wrapping kitchen parchment paper around some cardboard (with a piece of white paper under the parchment to make the colors pop) and I just toss the parchment paper after the session.
The weirdest things is how long they stay wet and mix on the canvas O_o
Give em a try!
Elliott - Trust me. This isn't exactly a breeze for me! lol Most of the color I used because that's what came out rather than what I was trying to mix lol, you should try them! They are so satisfying.
Thanks for stopping by everyone
