I have spent my entire life in Mississippi. Though I have grown up here and decided to put down some roots here it's never really felt like I belong.Although I live on the gulf coast which is much more diverse than areas of northern Mississippi I still get daily reminds of how ignorant and backwards this place can be. Daily I hear someone bashing a gay person or someone because of the color of their skin. And don't get me started on the ignorance I hear daily simply because I'm not a size 2, I have tattoos and piercing and my hair changes as often as some change their underwear. Not all of people who live here fit into that category so don't think I'm generalizing by any means. When growing up I was taught to be ashamed of my body by people around me (excluding my mother). She has taught me to love every inch of me and although she's not particularly fond of the idea off baring it all on the internet. She is a firm believer in supporting anything I do that will make me happy. I hope that by supporting the suicide girl site and what they stand for will help more girls in the south to love what makes them strange and not a social standard of beautiful.

It's not so different from the Midwest. I grew up in Wichita Kansas, where snobbery and robots rule; many of the masses there don't like people they interact with to have personalities, much less tattoos or piercings. That said, there's a subculture growing there. Here in Lincoln, being a college town, they're a little more laid back, though the biggest small town in America attitude that pervades 'mainstream' society here sucks my will to live.

Yeah that sound very similar to here except racism is still very alive and well... I hate it
