Happy birthday.  Still living is something these days

Big decision. It has been decades since I had dreads and cut them off. Now a days I wouldn't do dreads but I also wouldn't have short hair. I always miss it when it's gone and I'm miserable until it gets long again.

I think the more SG becomes like the rest of the digital world the more those of us that consider it an oasis or safe place start to question if that is still true. In the past staff response has been pretty much "it's the internet get over it" so it is never fruitful to fight the power here. That being said people have been complaining that SG isn't what it used to be since I first came here 11 years ago and I'm sure that's been happening since day two. It's a community and as new people join and generations pass things will change for better or worse to try and accommodate new blood. Does that upset the old guard? Sure. Will I stick around and document the decline, Statler and Waldorf style, for a while longer? Yes. It's still better than anywhere else I've been.

I have been away for a long time, 7-8 years, and just came back but it feels very different to how it used to in some ways. I do worry that it has moved more and more away from the comminity the site used to be about! Still i think change and the internet always throws up challenges.
