I just finished listening to Dynamite with a Laserbeam: Queen As Heard Through the Meatgrinder of 3-1-G and it was so good, I have to use this word: fantabulous.
Some of the best tracks on the album? The Blood Brothers doing Under Pressure, Get Hustle's minimalist takeover of Another One Bites the Dust, the almighty Locust taking over, destroying and amputating Flash Gordon to sound like Ming the Merciless has his way with old Flash (it was bound to happen eventually), Fast Forward seem to have stuck themselves in a wind tunnel-esque sewer system in Lilliput, hired some Oompaloompas and rebuilt A Crazy Little Thing Called Love and finally the ever wonderful, talented, crazy and Japanese poppy-noisopaths (is that even possibly a word?) of Melt Banana did We Will Rock You and rocked me. Points go to Upsilon Acrux's dolphin flavored start to Bicycle Race. Actually, the whole song reeked of porpoise. Purposeful porpoise? What's the porpoise of that? Oh god, horrible pun filled no doubt with the sweet sweet goo of spelling mistakes.
Speaking of the Blood Brothers, I saw them on Sunday with the Chinese Stars and Mean Reds. Super super super. Three of the beast bands ever, putting on such a great show at Cervantes. Managed to get a number, but am nevering going back to an artcore/noise rock/screamo show with christcore kids again, some of them just bitched the whole time - specifically about how the bands didn't actually play music and how ZAO was so much better than these guys... sometimes I wish I had ball gags in my pocket so I could shut them up.
Had a show to play Friday with my band Momento Mori (formerly the Flaming Arms of the Lusitania) but it was canceled.
Started another band last friday with my buddy Anger Management. It will involve a drum machine, two basses, two vocalists, a xylophone, soviet-era synths, and homemade instruments and perhaps turntables, samplers and a didjeridoo. Names we are thinking of: Pasteaters, Eaters of the Paste, Trostsky Ice Pick, Grey Ambassador of Dawn, Piss-test Sophia (my fave)... that's about it. We do have a few songs in the basic states of existence: Escape from Castle 7, Dance Dance Socialist Revolution, Oh! How Lovely the Iron Youth Marched On in Black and White, Eye of the Tiger avec Piano and Noise.
tests suck btw
Ciao
