It's been ten days since this journal of mine has felt the caress of new words in new ways...
Last Friday I went to a show in Loveland, the bill was as follows:
Vole-le
Entropy Accord
Poland's Mighty Cavalry
New Day Awakening
and a special appearance by Colin Bowel
Vol-le played their first show - and it was decent, the soundman sucked and they had amp problems but it was good. Too bad the kids didn't get it. Anger Management and I tried to get the show hopping by jumping our buddy Rufio (who was dressed in a bunny suit) but it only succeded in Rufio getting his kidney's hurt and me spitting blood. The dude from Accursed Heart was there and he kept jumping on stage and screaming... I wish he would stop. I actually wish the whole Metalcore (we think we're Hardcore) boat would crush into the rocks and call it quits... I'm seriously fed up with the fact that a once interesting punk offshoot has become cookie cutter and heard in malls. That's when you know a genre is about to glut itself... but's its not going to die, its going to keeping kicking in its death throes - much like Tough Guy Hardcore. Aside from all that ranting - Entropy Accord would be better if they dropped the metalcore screaming and stopped imitating who they saw on stage last week. Poland's Mighty Cavalry sounds like the Daughters/Great Redneck Hope meets Atreyu - i.e. it has the sound of Mathcore done by the mentally disabled. Not good. I like Mathcore a lot, but when its done by people who want to experiment, not people who think that Limp Bizkit dancing is hardcore and Radiohead were the first people to do what they do.
No.
Stop.
Please.
I'll give you a dollar.
New Day Awakening was okay. Colin Bowel's under a minute set of noisy chirping was the highlight until dude from Accursed Heart that it would be cool to scream along with them... ruined perfectly good noise. Bastard.
Saturday was another show:
Pulsatan
The Mandrake
Soul Ascension
Skinned
all of the above sucked horribly - chirping is cool in noise, it just sounds like ass in Death Metal. I did make five dollars, two burritos and two PBRs and got a phone number for working the door for an hour. That was the plus side and met somebody else in town who knows of the band Sunn O))) and Earth, which was cool.
sunday - discussed BBQ/Backyard show - with the Flaming Arms of the Lusitania opening - are two songs will be rad and destroy all comers... especially with our show's new Brainwash opening (see top of last entry).
Other than that, I have some Kafka (Amerika and The Trial) I have to get back to. Which is awesome, it beats having to re-read the Joy Luck Club.
