Went to the ZAO, Fear Before the March of Flames and The Agony Scene show last night at the Starlight up in Ft. Collins. The Agony Scene was up first, since the opening acts van broke down. Now, these chaps from Tulsa, OK were really really really lacking in the stage prescence department, but were by far the best band. Their mix of black metal and metalcore is rather refreshing, and their new use of horror and porn samples makes me think they are going away from the Christcore scene. Fear Before the March of Flames had amazing stage prescence, but are trying too much to be some mix between the Locust (right down to having a homemade light show and redoing a bunch of old 3-1-G merch) and a very abrasive clone of HORSE the Band. ZAO is a band I've never really liked, since I feel they try very hard to sound like what ever is popular in metalcore at the moment. They weren't good live, even barring their lead singer trying to act like Glenn Danzing circe Samhain. The show was fun in other ways though, my young friend Anger Management Mike fought some drunk dude that was twenty years older than him, Fuzzy got portions of the pit to break into over the head clapping, some one dude from a band I've played with before strung out on Meth, and various people fighting.

When we got back, I played the fantastical Bloc Party and Q And Not U for my buddies in Vole-le - and they had minor religious experiences. I wholeheartedly recommend listening to these two bands, they will blow you away (ouch on the cliche).

Vole-le has a show coming up on Feb. 11th. I'm stage crewing, dressing in a gorilla suit and can-can dancing and may recite some poetry here and there. All competition will be crushed. The Flaming Arms of the Lusitania just got two bassists - how they will be used will be an awesome lesson in sonic management and song writing prowess.

I'm cooking spinach and ricotta gnocchi in an alfredo and garlic sauce tonight with some bitki and pirozhki possibly - it's like the Ukraine invades Italy.

Here's how I feel about the awesome band Lightning Bolt - it's very similar to how Christian kids feel about Jesus - they're super awesome! Other bands that invoke the same feeling: Bloc Party, Q And Not U, Fugazi, Ink and Dagger, Icarus Line, Saetia, Yaphet Kotto, Moss Icon, Rites of Spring, Still Life, Circle Takes the Square, Encyclopedia of American Traitors, Leningrad, the State Secedes, the Chinese Stars, Zegota, Catharsis, the Plot to Blow Up the Eiffel Tower, Blur, Pulp and HORSE the Band.

Today and everyday after is a new day - DO something beautiful.
