Hey.
Here's a rather badass update. My second book JIGSAW YOUTH will be out on March 11, 2015. That's next month. Holy shit.
They say writing can exorcise demons. Shed light on the darkest corners of your mind and lift heaviness from hearts, shoulders, souls. I set out to write a fun, punk rock novel about young women who don't give a fuck, but ended up with something stronger, heavier, more powerful. JIGSAW YOUTH is the story of a woman told in fragments. What makes her, what breaks her, and what helps her find the strength to keep going despite constantly being expected to fail.
But it's not just oh-shits and boo-hoos. There are plenty of laughs, adventures, and boobs. C'mon, who doesn't like boobs?
I listened to a lot of Bikini Kill, L7, Babes In Toyland, and Lunachicks during the writing process, as well as watched documentaries like Don't Need You and The Punk Singer -- all for a heavy Riot Grrrl touch.
You don't need to be a woman or a feminist to enjoy this book. Just appreciate a whole lot of heart.
The book is available for pre-order NOW.
The link above is a Kickstarter started by Broken River Books. The press, along with its two imprints (King Shot and Ladybox), plan to release 12 books on the same day. For a small press, this is a HUGE undertaking, and I am humbled to see this project already be fully funded. HOWEVER, if you want to lock in your own copies of whatever book(s) you find interesting, by all means, consider backing this project. The folks at Broken River have some rad stretch goals lined up, too. So check it out!
In other news:
-I finally have health insurance (Yes!)
-L7 is back and planning a bunch of reunion shows
-I got a new tattoo
-I went to LA and it was rad
-Pretty amped to see that my first book is still selling copies
-Kathleen Hanna will be coming to Portland soon. I might cry like a fucking baby if I find myself within a ten foot radius of her.
