Yea, I wouldnt mind living alone but I have this thing where if Im in an empty house I cant sleep. I would constantly have to have someone sleep at my house or I wouldnt get any sleep at all. I would suggest going into the Peace Corps before grad school. It will give you a "break", and it will help you get into top schools since the Peace Corps counts as an extremely favorable experience. It will also provide a winning application essay.

If you ever get a chance to take a class with Jennifer Carpentier, DO IT. It doesn't matter what the class is. Just take it. She is the best English teacher I've ever had. I had her for Brit Lit II and then took her Women in Lit class the next semester. She's absolutely amazing, mostly because she's fairly young and doesn't have any kind of feminist agenda, like most of the female English profs.
