So a coworker was asking what I was gonna do on my weekend, and I told him I was seeing "Barbie" after I got off work that day (side bar: it was so damn funny, sweet and sad and such a good movie, and that theater was FULL), and he said, "NO! Shane, I'm judging you right now!"
"I don't give a shit," I told him. "I think it looks good."
"At least tell me you're taking a date or your kids with you!" he said.
"You know I'm not dating anyone, and my kids are grown! If they want to see it, they can go with their partners or friends. I have no problem seeing a movie by myself that I think looks interesting."
He rolled his eyes. "That's such a movie for girls!"
I scowled at him. "Movies aren't gendered; if I want to see Barbie, or a woman wants to see Oppenheimer, why does it matter?"
He shook his head. "You just don't get it."
I shook mine. "That's what I was thinking about you."
I am nearly a half-century old. I am long past caring if others like or respect me for what I do for enjoyment. As long as it's not hurting anyone -and as long as they're not paying my bills- I really don't give a shit if others get it or not :)
