Big, birthday weekend update. Yes, it took me two whole days to recover before I could bring myself to write this.
Friday, My pal, Chris, insisted on taking me out. He went out of town for the weekend, but wanted to get together before he left.
We ended up going down to Casey's, downtown, for a round before heading out. We were greeted by a new bartender who didn't know what a Half & Half was (Guinness & Harp) and didn't know how to layer them. When they arrived, it looked like a glass of Bass. Fortunately, John, the veteran bartender showed her how to make them properly and we received a free round.
We went from Casey's over to the Brewery for a party benefiting Nick McCarthy's film. Apparently, it got accepted to Sundance and he needed to raise money to take it there. So, there was a big, crazy party at his Robochrist loft including fire dancers and robot wars.
We got there a little late and caught the last half of a robot war. I really wanted to see the fire dancers, though. I did get to see a lot of friends and we had a good time. I was a good boy and didn't drink too much because I wanted to be in good shape for birthday festivities the next day.
Chris drove me home in his souped up Subaru and we ended up flying down Riverside drive about 70 miles an hour. I actually got a little unnerved at some of the cornering. I hadn't felt like that since I was joyriding as a kid. Chris' cousin runs a Subaru shop and tweaks out his car at a discount. Fortunately, I made it home safely.
I drive a big ol' 70's van, so I'm not used to being fast and low to the ground unless I'm on my bike;
Saturday was my birthday and got off to a good start with the opening of presents. My mom completely spoiled me with an iPod. I have been having a lot of fun building my library and taking it in the van and the gym. I'm really overwhelmed by such a gift. I also got a couple gift certificates, a tea set from Thailand, and a frame for a Joyce poster my Dad brought home from Ireland.
I thought I was going to go for a bike ride but ended up working on music in the studio all day, which was great. Later on, I treated myself to a spicy chicken burrito from El Pollo Loco along with a 12 pack o' Bud and a dozen eggs. Fancy!
The party at the Wild Hare worked out wonderfully. Lillitatiana and obd showed up, which was great to finally meet them and have a beer. A lot of my friends that I know from the AIDS ride showed up and we all had bike geek lingo. Some people brought gifts, even though I told them not to. Naughty! The nice thing is I won't have to buy any liquor for a while. A couple friends showed up that I haven't seen in Ages. The only problem with having such an event is that you don't get to spend as much time with everyone as you would lke.
We ended up staying until closing time. The Delerium Tremens on tap was teaching some people a lesson, including me. The crazy San Tropez shots the bartender kept feeding us didn't help either.
We tried finding a party on the way home, but either the directions were bad or the party was pretty much over. Nick passed out in the car, so we decided to call. it a night.
Sunday, I spent most of the day whimpering on the couch for the good lord baby jeebus to take mercy on my sorry ass. About the time I was feeling better, Glen called me up to take me to Anarkali, a fine Indian establishment on Melrose. We ended up throwing some darts until late while sampling some of the birthday Scotch (The Balvenie).
Now, it's back to looking for work and getting used to my new age figure and writing 05 instead of 04.
I want to scrape together money to go see the Body Worlds exhibit at the Science Center before it ends this weekend.
